Rafael Nadal is in a category of his own for most clay-court statistics, and it is no different at the Barcelona Open — where he is miles ahead on the list for most titles won.
Two other players have won three titles at the prestigious clay tournament, while Carlos Alcaraz and Bjorn Borg have each secured two trophies.
Here, we look at the 11 men to win multiple Barcelona Open titles in the Open Era.
Ilie Nastase – 2 titles
Ilie Nastase triumphed at back-to-back editions of the Barcelona Open in 1973 and 1974, beating Manuel Orantes in the title match on both occasions.
Bjorn Borg – 2 titles
Bjorn Borg secured the Barcelona crown in 1975 and 1977, defeating Adriano Panatta and Manuel Orantes in the respective finals.
Ivan Lendl – 2 titles
Ivan Lendl was a Barcelona Open champion in 1980 and 1981, having overcome Guillermo Vilas in both of his championship matches.
Kent Carlsson – 2 titles
Kent Carlsson was the fourth and most recent Swede to win in Barcelona, having beaten Andreas Maurer in 1986 and Thomas Muster in 1988.
Andres Gomez – 2 titles
Andres Gomez won the Barcelona Open in consecutive years in 1989 and 1990 as he downed Horst Skoff and Guillermo Perez Roldan in the respective title matches.

Manuel Orantes was the first player to win the Barcelona Open three times in the Open Era, having triumphed in 1969, 1971 and 1976. The Spaniard downed Manuel Santana, Bob Lutz and Eddie Dibbs in the respective finals.
Mats Wilander – 3 titles
Mats Wilander contested five championship matches in Barcelona and collected his three titles in consecutive years. In his successful finals, the Swede defeated Vilas in both 1982 and 1983, and Joakim Nystrom in 1984.
Rafael Nadal – 12 titles
Rafael Nadal won a staggering 12 Barcelona Open crowns — the second highest number of titles won by a player at a single tournament after his own record of 14 French Open wins.
In the title matches, the Mallorcan beat: Juan Carlos Ferrero (2005), Tommy Robredo (2006), Guillermo Canas (2007), David Ferrer (2008, 2009, 2011, 2012), Nicolas Almagro (2013), Nishikori (2016), Dominic Thiem (2017), and Tsitsipas (2018, 2021).
