The 5 men with most wins in first 100 Masters-level matches: Rafael Nadal 83 wins, Jannik Sinner No 5
Despite major off-court controversy, Jannik Sinner keeps impressing on the court in 2024.
Alongside his two Grand Slam titles, the Italian has found huge success at all levels and defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry to reach the fourth round of the Shanghai Masters on Sunday.
That was the 100th match in Masters 1000 tournaments for the 23-year-old and his 74th match win at that level.
Sinner’s impressive record is one only four men – all greats of the game – can beat.
5) Jannik Sinner: 74-26
Victory over Etcheverry on Sunday was the latest in a line of impressive Masters 1000 victories, with a strong match-win rate of 74% at this level so far.
The most notable successes he has so far achieved at this level are his three Masters 1000 titles, lifting his first such title at the Canadian Open in 2023.
This year, the world No 1 has added further such titles to his collection at the Miami Open – where he has also twice finished as the runner-up – and the Cincinnati Open two months ago.
4) Jim Courier: 75-25
One of the best players of the early 1990s, Courier just pips Sinner by having won 75 of his first 100 matches at this level of tournament.
The American’s tally is helped by having completed the Sunshine Double in 1991, winning the Indian Wells and Miami Open titles in consecutive events that spring.
The third of Courier’s five Masters 1000 titles also came inside his first 100 matches, lifting the Italian Open title in 1992.

3) Pete Sampras: 76-24
A true great of the sport, Sampras sits third in this countdown with a strong 76 wins inside his first 100 Masters matches.
The 14-time major champion reached the Cincinnati and Paris finals in 1991 and then claimed his first Masters 1000 title in Cincinnati the following year.
That was then followed by further victories at Indian Wells and Miami inside his first 100 matches.
2) Stefan Edberg: 77-23
Edberg was at the height of his powers when the modern Masters 1000 format was introduced, and the Swedish great won 77 of his first 100 matches at the revamped level.
The former world No 1 won three Masters titles in 1990, lifting the title in Indian Wells, Cincinnati, and Paris, while also reaching finals in Miami and Stockholm.
That would prove to be the height of his Masters success, with one final title coming at the Hamburg Open in 1992.
1) Rafael Nadal: 83-17
Well out in front is tennis icon Nadal, who won a staggering 83 of his first 100 matches in Masters 1000 tournaments.
After his first two seasons on tour, the Spaniard held a rather average 9-8 record in Masters matches, though that all changed in 2005.
Alongside winning his first French Open title, he also won four Masters 1000 titles – in Monte Carlo, Rome, Canada, and Madrid – and finished runner-up at the Miami Open.
Further Monte Carlo and Rome titles in 2006 and 2007 only helped him strengthen his strong record at 1000-level events before his 100th match.
