The 12 men to reach four consecutive Grand Slam semi-finals as Jannik Sinner emulates Big Four
Jannik Sinner is the 12th player to qualify for four Grand Slam semi-finals in a row with the Italian joining several all-time greats on the list of players to achieve the feat.
The reigning world No 1’s run started at the 2024 US Open when he reached the last four of the hard-court major at Flushing Meadows for the first time. He went on to win the title as he beat Jack Draper in the semi-final and Taylor Fritz in the final.
Next was the successful defence of his Australian Open crown at the start of 2025, this time Sinner saw off Ben Shelton in the last eight before getting the better of Alexander Zverev in the final.
He came close to making it three Grand Slam titles on the trot after he defeated Novak Djokovic in the semis and had three match points against Carlos Alcaraz in the final, but the Spaniard stormed back to win in five sets.
Sinner has now gone on to reach a fourth consecutive Slam semi-final after brushing Shelton off in the quarter-final at Wimbledon.

1. Rod Laver
The great Laver was always going to feature given he is the only man to win a Calendar Grand Slam as he won the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open in 1969 so naturally he had to reach the semi-finals of those events.
In fact, he also achieved the feat before the start of the Open Era as he reached 10 consecutive major semi-finals from Wimbledon 1960 until the 1962 US Open.
2. Tony Roche
You have to feel sorry Laver’s fellow Australian Roche, as he also reached the semi-final of all four majors in 1969, but he lost in the Australian Open last four against Laver, in the French Open semis against Ken Rosewall, the Wimbledon last four against John Newcombe and the US Open final against Laver.

3. John McEnroe
The American’s run of five consecutive semi-finals started with his 1981 Wimbledon title run before he went on to win the US Open a few months later. McEnroe then missed the 1982 Australian Open and French Open and returned to the final at Wimbledon, finishing runner-up to Jimmy Connors. He then lost in the semi-finals at the US Open and the 1983 Australian Open.
4. Jim Courier
Courier lost in the semi-finals of the 1992 US Open and then won the 1983 Australian Open before finishing runner-up to Sergi Bruguera in the French Open final and against Pete Sampras in the Wimbledon final.
5. Ivan Lendl
Lendl had one run of five consecutive semi-finals and one of nine semis in a row.
The first one started when he won the 1984 French Open trophy, he then lost in the last four at Wimbledon before finishing runner-up at the US Open. His run ended with a semi-final defeat at the 1985 Australian Open.
His spell of nine consecutive semi-finals started with his 1985 US Open title. There was no Australian Open at the start of 1986 and he then won the French Open, finished runner-up at Wimbledon, won the US Open, fell in the semi-final at the 1987 Australian Open, won Roland Garros, finished runner-up at Wimbledon, won a third consecutive US Open trophy and reached the semi-final at the 1988 Australian Open.
His run was ended in the quarter-final of the 1988 French Open by Jonas Svensson.
6. Boris Becker
The German’s run of five consecutive semi-finals did not include one of his Wimbledon title runs, but it did start at SW19.
Becker finished runner-up to Stefan Edberg at Wimbledon in 1990, lost in the semi-final of the US Open, won the 1991 Australian Open, lost in the last four at Roland Garros before being beaten by Michael Stich in the Wimbledon final.
7. Andre Agassi
The American achieved the feat twice, although the first time was “interrupted” by his decision not to play at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
Agassi reached the semi-final of the 1989 US Open, then missed the Australian Open the next year, finished runner-up to Andres Gomes at Roland Garros, missed Wimbledon, lost the US Open final against Sampras, skipped the Australian Open and finished runner-up to Courier in the 1990 French Open final.
The second time was at consecutive events as it started with his French Open title in 1999 before he was beaten by Sampras at Wimbledon. He followed it up with titles at the US Open and the 2001 Australian Open.
8. Roger Federer
Swiss Maestro Federer holds the record for consecutive Grand Slam semi-finals as he once had a streak of 23.
The incredible run started with his 2004 Wimbledon title run and ended six years later when he was beaten in the quarter-final at Roland Garros by Robin Soderling. He won 14 Grand Slams during that stretch, finished runner-up six times and fell in the semis on four occasions.
He had another spell of four semi-finals from the 2011 US Open semi-final until the Wimbledon 2012 final. Also from Wimbledon 2015 until Wimbledon 2017 (he missed two French Opens and one US Open).
9. Rafael Nadal
The 22-time Grand Slam winner’s run of five consecutive semi-finals started at the 2008 Australian Open where he lost in the last eight before winning the Roland Garros and Wimbledon titles. He suffered another last-four exit from the US Open and then won the 2009 Australian Open.
He reached another five consecutive semi-finals from 2011 until 2012 with the run starting at the French Open before he was beaten in the second round at Wimbledon 2012.
There were another seven semi-finals in a row, starting with his 2018 French Open title with the last coming when he lifted the 2019 US Open.
He lost in the semi-final of the 2021 French Open, but also marked the start of another streak as he missed Wimbledon and the US Open, won the 2022 Australian Open and French Open and retired ahead of his 2022 Wimbledon semi-final.
10. Novak Djokovic
Djokovic’s first Grand Slam title came on the back of reaching four semi-finals as he lost in the last eight at the 2007 French Open and Wimbledon and then finished runner-up at the US Open before winning the 2008 Australian Open. He then lost in the semi-final of the French Open before his run was ended in the second round at Wimbledon.
His 14 consecutive Grand Slam semi-final spell then started at Wimbledon in 2010 and ended in the third round at the same event in 2016. He won 11 majors during that run and finished runner-up at seven tournaments.
Djokovic reached another five semi-finals in a row from Wimbledon 2018 before he went on to lose in the fourth round of the 2019 US Open.
Of course, there were four semi-finals in a row in 2021 as he won the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and finished runner-up at the US Open. He won another three majors in 2023 (Australian Open, French Open and US Open) and finished runner-up at Wimbledon.
11. Andy Murray
The three-time major winner’s first run of four semi-finals started in 2011 when he finished runner-up to Djokovic at the Australian Open before losing in the last eight at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and Flushing Meadows. He also lost in the semis at Melbourne in 2012.
He then finished runner-up at Wimbledon 2012, won the US Open, lost in the final of the 2013 Australian Open, missed the French Open and won Wimbledon.
12. Jannik Sinner
As mentioned above, Sinner started his run at the 2024 US Open and notched up semi-final No 4 at Wimbledon 2025.
