The Canadian Open is one of the biggest and most prestigious events in men’s tennis, with several all-time greats of the game triumphing at the tournament over the years.

Countless legendary champions have been crowned, but who are the most successful players in tournament history?

Here, we look at the seven men with the highest Canadian Open win percentages in the Open Era (min. 10 matches played).

7) Boris Becker – 81.82%

Former world No 1 Becker played the Canadian Open just three times in his career, but lifted the title on his tournament debut in 1986

The German beat long-time rival Stefan Eberg to lift the title in Toronto and would go on to reach the semi-final in 1987, before a third-round showing in 1993.

Becker held a 9-2 record overall at the tournament, a win percentage of 81.82%.

=5) Bjorn Borg – 82.61%

The dominant force of the men’s game in the late 1970s, Borg defeated John McEnroe to lift his sole Canadian Open title in 1979.

Borg would reach the final in his last appearance in 1980, retiring injured against Ivan Lendl, with an impressive 19-4 record across his five showings at the event.

The former world No 1 has a win rate of 82.61% at the tournament, the equal-fifth highest of the Open Era.

=5) Rafael Nadal – 82.61%

Equal with Borg on 82.61% is Nadal, who won a staggering five Canadian Open titles across his career – making it his most successful hard-court event.

The Spaniard lifted the title for the first time in 2005, before capturing further crowns in 2008, 2013, 2018, and 2019.

Overall, Nadal held an impressive 38-8 win-loss record at the Masters 1000 tournament.

4) Novak Djokovic – 84.09%

Unsurprisingly, Djokovic is another player to have tasted huge success at the event, with the Serb triumphing four times at the Masters 1000 tournament.

Djokovic lifted the title in 2007, 2011, 2012, and in 2016, alongside finishing as the runner-up to Andy Murray in 2015.

The Serbian holds an overall win rate of 84.09% at the Canadian Open, with a 37-7 win-loss record at the Masters 1000 tournament.

3) Ilie Nastase – 84.62%

One of the most successful players in the early years of the Open Era, Nastase lifted the Canadian Open title back in 1972, defeating Andrew Pattison in the final.

The Romanian would then lose his opening match the following year but reached a second final in 1975, falling to Manuel Orantes in the opening match.

Nastase’s 11-2 win-loss record gives him a win rate of 84.62%, the third-highest among men in the Open Era.

2) Guillermo Vilas – 85.00%

Another great of the 1970s, former world No 2 Vilas was a two-time Canadian Open champion at the peak of his powers.

Vilas defeated Orantes to lift the title in 1974 and then beat Wojtek Fibak to regain his crown in 1976, with an overall win-loss record of 17-3 at the prestigious tournament.

The Argentinian holds an 85% win record at the tournament, a percentage that only one man in the Open Era can beat.

1) Ivan Lendl – 86.36%

Former world No 1 Lendl won a record six titles at the Canadian Open during his career and, unsurprisingly, also has the tournament’s highest men’s singles win percentage.

Lendl was a champion at the tournament in 1980-81, 1983, and then from 1987-89, with further runner-up finishes in 1982 and 1985 to the Czech’s name.

The eight-time Grand Slam champion won 57 of the 66 matches he contested at the tournament, leaving him with an overall win rate of 86.36%.
