The 9 men with the highest indoor win percentage: Roger Federer 81%, Novak Djokovic joint-sixth

The ATP indoor season is in full swing and action is now heating, with the Paris Masters – the biggest indoor event outside of the ATP Finals – getting underway.
Indoor tournaments aren’t as prominent as they used to be, though a few players have found particular success in recent years – and sit alongside greats of the indoor courts.
Here, we look at the nine men – all Grand Slam champions – who have the highest indoor win percentage in ATP history.
9) Pete Sampras – 77.7%
Our countdown starts with ‘Pistol Pete’, who was almost as lethal on indoor courts as he was on the lawns of SW19 during the peak of his powers.
The American icon won 23 of his 64 career titles on the surface, with perhaps his best successes on indoor courts coming at the ATP Finals – where he was a five-time winner.
With two Paris Masters also in his trophy cabinet, Sampras’s indoor win percentage of 77.7% places him ninth all-time as things stand.
8) Rod Laver – 78.3%
A legend of both the Amateur and Open Eras, Australian icon Laver remains one of the most accomplished players in tennis history.
And, while he may be most celebrated for his Calendar Grand Slam in 1969, Laver was also a hugely accomplished player on indoor courts.
Of his 73 Open Era titles, 22 came indoors, and his match-win percentage of 78.3% still places him eighth all-time, almost five decades on from his retirement.
=6) Novak Djokovic – 79.8%
Indoor events aren’t as commonplace on the modern ATP Tour, but that hasn’t stopped 24-time Grand Slam winner Djokovic from winning 19 titles in such tournaments.
The Serbian’s best results at indoor events have come at the ATP Finals and the Paris Masters, holding a record seven titles at both tournaments.
With a win percentage of 79.8%, Djokovic is joint sixth on the all-time indoor win percentage rankings.
=6) Boris Becker – 79.8%
Matching Djokovic is his former coach Becker, who also won 79.8% of his indoor matches.
The German won 30 titles of his 49 career singles titles in indoor events – a total only bettered by three other men – and across his career claimed an impressive 297 match wins.
Becker won three ATP Finals and four Masters 1000 titles in indoor competitions, in particular finding success at the Stockholm Open – where he is a four-time champion.

5) Bjorn Borg – 80.6%
Borg is best remembered for his exploits at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, though he was also a hugely accomplished player indoors.
The Swede won 24 indoor titles across his career – over a third of his total career titles – and won back-to-back Grand Prix Masters in such conditions in 1979 and 1980.
With a win percentage of 80.6%, the former world No 1 is currently one of just five men with a win rate above 80%.
4) Roger Federer – 81%
One of the greatest players in tennis history, Federer is famed for his 310 weeks at world No 1 and winning 20 Grand Slam titles.
However, the Swiss was also a master of indoor events, winning 81% of his matches in such events.
Federer won 298 matches in indoor tournaments and lost just 70 times, famously winning four ATP Finals on indoor courts – and 10 titles at his home event in Basel.
3) Jimmy Connors – 81.6%
With 53 titles coming in indoor tournaments, former world No 1 Connors holds the record for the most titles won at indoor events.
The American found huge success in both hard court and carpet tournaments, being a former ATP Finals and WCT Finals champion.
Former world No 1 Connors holds an 81.6% win percentage in indoor events, a tally that only two players in ATP history can beat.
2) Ivan Lendl – 83%
One of the most decorated players in tennis history, eight-time major champion Lendl found huge success on indoor courts throughout his career.
The Czech won 42 of his 94 titles in indoor tournaments, most notably winning five year-end championship titles and two WCT Finals titles.
With a win percentage of 83% in indoor tournaments, Lendl ranks second on this list.
1) John McEnroe – 85.3%
Out in front is former world No 1 and tennis icon McEnroe, who won a staggering 85.3% of his matches on indoor courts.
The American won 52 of his 77 ATP Tour titles on indoor courts, winning 423 matches in such tournaments – and tasting defeat just 73 times.
In fact, McEnroe’s final career title came on the surface, downing brother Patrick to lift the title in Chicago in 1991.
