The 5 men with the most Australian Open appearances: ft Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic

Roger Federer holds the record for the man with the most Australian Open appearances in the Open Era, with 21 tournaments showings to his name.
He is one of only five men to have made 19+ appearances Down Under – with two players adding to their total appearances in 2025.
5) Stan Wawrinka – 19
Having received a wildcard to make his 19th appearance in 2025, Wawrinka is now fifth in the Open Era for most appearances – missing the tournament just once since his debut in 2006.
The Swiss reached round two in his first appearance 19 years ago but is probably best remembered for his triumph in 2014, beating Rafael Nadal to win his first Grand Slam title.
Wawrinka was also a semi-finalist in 2015 and 2017, though was beaten in the opening round of this year’s event by Lorenzo Sonego.
=2) Lleyton Hewitt – 20
Aussie great Hewitt never won his home Slam, but his 20 appearances rank him joint second among men in the Open Era.
Hewitt was just 15 years old when he made his event debut back in 1997 and played the tournament every year until his final competitive singles tournament in Melbourne in 2016.
His best result at the Australian Open came in 2005 when he reached the final before a four-set loss to Marat Safin.

=2) Feliciano Lopez – 20
With a joint record of 81 Grand Slam men’s singles main draw appearances to his name and a record of 79 consecutive majors played, it comes as no surprise to see Lopez high up on this list.
The Spaniard made his first Australian Open appearance back in 2003 and then proceeded to play the event every year until 2022, in what proved to be his penultimate Grand Slam main draw showing.
Lopez’s best Australian Open results came in in 2012 and 2015, where he reached the fourth round before defeats to Rafael Nadal and Milos Raonic respectively.
=2) Novak Djokovic – 20
Making his 20th appearance at the Australian Open in 2025, Djokovic will surely have his sights on matching Roger Federer’s record in 2026 – and then potentially eclipsing it in 2027.
The Serbian was just 17 when he made his Grand Slam debut in Melbourne back in 2005, and he has only missed the tournament once since; in 2022, when he was controversially deported.
Djokovic has won a record 10 singles titles in Melbourne and is on course to challenge for a record-extending 11th title over the coming days.
1) Roger Federer – 21
Just out in front is Federer who has made 21 Australian Open appearances, and sits alongside Lopez with a record 81 Grand Slam appearances overall.
After losing in qualifying in 1999, the Swiss made his first main draw appearance in 2000 and picked up his first two Grand Slam match wins, reaching the third round.
Federer would not miss the event for two decades, with his 21st and final showing in 2020 seeing him make the semi-finals for the 15th time – before losing to Djokovic.
The Swiss won the title six times, with his first triumph coming in 2004 and his last coming in 2018.
