Here, we look at the seven women who have reached the most singles finals in the Open Era.
7. Serena Williams – 98
Serena Williams reached 98 singles finals on the WTA Tour and secured 73 titles. She reached 64 of her finals at hard-court events, 16 on clay, 12 on grass and six on carpet.
The American defeated Amelie Mauresmo at the 1999 Open GDF Suez in Paris in her first final and downed Jessica Pegula in her last-ever title match at the 2020 Auckland Open.
6. Evonne Goolagong – 119
Evonne Goolagong contested 119 of her 150 career singles finals — winning 68 of her titles — at WTA-recognised events in the Open Era.
The Australian beat Joyce Williams to win her maiden WTA title in Southport in 1970, while she saw off Chris Evert for her final tournament triumph at the 1980 Wimbledon Championships.

5. Margaret Court – 121
Margaret Court played in 121 of her 234 career singles finals — and won 92 of her 192 titles — in the Open Era.
She downed Virginia Wade at the 1968 London Hard Court Championships for her first Open Era tournament victory, while she beat Sue Barker to secure her last-ever title at the 1976 Toyota Women’s Classic in Melbourne.
4. Billie Jean King – 122
Billie Jean King reached 122 of her 183 career singles finals — and collected 67 of her 129 titles — in the Open Era.
The American beat Judy Tegart-Dalton to win her first WTA-listed title at Wimbledon in 1968. She overcame Alycia Moulton in her last career championship match at the 1983 Edgbaston Cup in Birmingham.
3. Steffi Graf – 138
Steffi Graf featured in 138 title matches on the WTA Tour and claimed 107 titles. She reached 50 finals on hard-court, 43 on clay, 36 on carpet and nine on grass.
The German was defeated by Catarina Lindqvist in her maiden final in 1984 in Filderstadt, while she lost her final title match to Lindsay Davenport at the 1999 Wimbledon Championships.
2. Chris Evert – 230
Chris Evert contested 230 WTA championship matches, winning 157. She reached 81 of her finals on clay, 68 on carpet, 52 on hard-court and 29 on grass.
The American lost to Nancy Richey in her first-ever final at the 1970 Carolinas International Tennis Classic and fell to Monica Seles in her last at the 1989 Virginia Slims of Houston.
1. Martina Navratilova – 239
Martina Navratilova reached a staggering 239 singles finals on the WTA Tour, winning 167. She reached 126 of her finals on indoor carpet, 41 on grass, 39 on hard-court and 33 on clay.
The Czech-American was beaten by Helga Niessen Masthoff at the 1974 German Open in her maiden final. In her last-ever title match, Navratilova lost to Arantxa Sanchez Vicario at the 1994 Bank of the West Classic in Oakland.
