The 5 men with the most Monte Carlo Masters appearances: Novak Djokovic set to surpass Rafael Nadal

Rafael Nadal amassed the majority of Monte Carlo Masters records during his staggering spell of dominance at the tournament, but Novak Djokovic is poised to set break one of them.

Djokovic, who is the No 3 seed at the 2025 edition of the tournament, will overtake Nadal for the most appearances at the Monte Carlo Country Club when he plays his first match.

Here are the five players who have featured at the Monte Carlo Masters the most times.

5. Tomas Berdych – 14 appearances

Tomas Berdych played the Monte Carlo Masters on 14 occasions, having made his debut in 2004 and his final appearance in 2018.

The Czech compiled a 20-14 record (58.8%) at the prestigious clay-court event.

His best Monte Carlo result came in 2015, when he lost in the final to Novak Djokovic. Berdych was also a semi-finalist in 2007 and 2012.

4. Stan Wawrinka – 15 appearances

Stan Wawrinka will make his 15th appearance in Monte Carlo at the 2025 edition of the tournament after being awarded a main draw wildcard.

The Swiss holds a 22-12 record (64.7%) from his 14 previous campaigns, having made his debut in 2006.

He won his only Masters 1000 title at the 2014 Monte Carlo Masters, when he beat Roger Federer in the final. Wawrinka was also a semi-finalist in 2009 and a quarter-finalist in 2012, 2013 and 2016.

3. Fabrice Santoro – 16 appearances

Fabrice Santoro competed at the Monte Carlo Masters 16 times, having made his first appearance in 1990 and his most recent in 2008.

The Frenchman amassed a 17-16 record (51.5%), with his best result his semi-final run in 1997. He also made the quarter-finals in 1998.

2. Rafael Nadal – 17 appearances

Rafael Nadal made 17 appearances at the Monte Carlo Masters, where he made his debut in 2003 and his last appearance in 2021.

The Spaniard accumulated a staggering 73-6 record (92.4%) at the Masters 1000 tournament.

He secured a record 11 titles in Monte Carlo (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, 2017 and 2018), while he was also a runner-up in 2013.

Nadal’s Monte Carlo debut as a 16-year-old was his only campaign where he did not progress to at least the quarter-finals.

1. Novak Djokovic – 18 appearances

Novak Djokovic’s appearance at the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters will be his record-breaking 18th campaign at the event.

The Serbian holds a 39-15 record (72.2%) from his 17 previous appearances, having made his debut in 2006.

He is a two-time champion, having triumphed in 2013 and 2015, while he was also a runner-up in 2009 and 2012. Djokovic is also a four-time semi-finalist in Monte Carlo.
