Novak Djokovic now holds four BIG Grand Slam records after surpassing Roger Federer with latest feat

Novak Djokovic has snapped up another Grand Slam record with his latest feat at the Australian Open as he moved ahead of another Roger Federer milestone.
Ahead of his second-round match against qualifier Jaime Faria, tennis great Djokovic was already in possession of the following records at the four majors: Most titles as he owns 24 – two more than Rafael Nadal with Federer another two behind on 20 – most match wins as he surpassed Federer’s 369 last year and most finals as he has played in 37 Slam finals.
And on Wednesday he added another outright feat to his incredible list as he became the all-time record holder – men and women – for most singles matches played at a Grand Slam.
He was joint top with Federer on 429, but the Faria encounter saw him move to 430 while the recently retired Nadal is a distant third on 358. He later went to 431 after beating Jiri Lehecka in the fourth round.

Djokovic’s 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-2 victory over the 21-year-old Portuguese was his 380th at Grand Slams and his win-loss percentage now stands 88.1% (380–51).
He is now also 32-0 against qualifiers and lucky losers at Grand Slams with Federer on 33-1 with his sole defeat coming against qualifier and world No 154 Mario Ancic at Wimbledon in 2002.
“I think I responded very well in the third and particularly fourth set, the way I ended the match,” the Serbian said. “He was playing lights-out tennis towards the end of the second set and the beginning of the third.
I had to weather the storm. He’s been practically serving two first serves the entire match. It’s not easy to play someone like that who doesn’t have obviously anything to lose coming out. He’s a big guy, very young… so I told him at the net, the future is bright for him, he should keep going.”

“I love this sport. I love competition,” Djokovic said about his latest record. “I try to give my best every single time. It’s been over 20 years that I’ve been competing in Grand Slams at the highest level. Whether I win or lose one thing is for sure: I’ll always leave my heart out on the court.”
Djokovic can add another Grand Slam record to his cap if he wins the title as he will become the oldest winner.
Ken Rosewall won the 1972 Australian Open at the age of 37 years and 62 days and Djokovic will be 37 years and 249 days old if he goes all the way at Melbourne Park this year.
There is another record that he can achieve before he retires and that is most Grand Slam tournament appearances as Federer and Feliciano Lopez currently hold the record as they are on 81.
Djokovic moved to 77 at this year’s Australian Open and, if he plays in the three remaining majors in 2025, he could join them the above two at next year’s season-opening Grand Slam.
