The 5 players to win a 6-1 set against Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon: Alex de Minaur joins Carlos Alcaraz
Alex de Minaur became the fifth player to win a set by a 6-1 scoreline against Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon during the pair’s match at the 2025 Championships.
The Australian served up a ‘breadstick’ in the opening set of his last 16 clash with Djokovic on Centre Court, but ultimately fell 6-1, 4-6, 4-6, 4-6.
In his press conference, the No 11 seed assessed: “I think from the back of the court, I went toe-to-toe with one of the greats, right? I was definitely taking it to him and probably felt like I had the upper hand if we had indeed got into a rally.
“I was moving the ball well. I was hurting him from the baseline and, yeah, gave myself plenty of opportunities and chances. I mean, the returning, I know I’m always going to give myself chances. I’m always going to put a lot of the pressure on my opponent, and I did that today.”
Here are the other four men to win a set 6-1 against Djokovic at the All England Club.
Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal, Djokovic’s greatest rival, is the only player to win multiple sets by a 6-1 scoreline against the Serb at Wimbledon.
At the 2007 Wimbledon Championships, Nadal responded to losing the first set of his semi-final clash with Djokovic by taking the second set 6-1. Djokovic was forced to retire due to injury in the third set while trailing 6-3, 1-6, 1-4.
In his 2011 Wimbledon final showdown with Djokovic, the Spaniard won the third set 6-1. The Serbian ultimately prevailed 6-4, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 for his maiden title at the London Grand Slam.
Sam Querrey
At Wimbledon in 2016, Djokovic was seeking a fifth consecutive major to keep his bid for a Calendar Grand Slam alive, but his hopes were dashed in shocking fashion.
In the third round, 28th seed Sam Querrey upset the top seed and two-time reigning champion 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(5).
