Paris has been front and centre of the tennis world in 2024.

Not only did the Olympic Games take place in the city in the summer, the French Open again attracted the attention of tennis fans across the globe.

Now, the best of the men’s game return to the famed city for the Paris Masters, the final Masters 1000 title of the season – and one of the most prestigious titles on tour.

Played on indoor hard courts, the Paris Masters could not be much different from action at Roland Garros – just ask Rafael Nadal.

The Spaniard won a staggering 14 French Open titles on his beloved clay but never found his best in Bercy, reaching just a solitary final and never lifting the title.

In fact, only three men have been able to win both the French Open and Paris Masters titles in the same season since the latter tournament was launched in 1969.

Seeded second in Bercy this coming week, Carlos Alcaraz will hope to become the fourth.

Novak Djokovic – 2021, 2023

A seven-time Bercy champion and a three-time winner at Roland Garros, Djokovic is the only man to complete the elusive double twice.

The first such occasion came in 2021, the year he claimed his second French Open title and sealed a sixth triumph at the Paris Masters.

Djokovic rallied from two sets down to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Roland Garros final, before downing Daniil Medvedev in Bercy.

Two years later the Serbian completed the double for a second time in 2023, defeating Casper Ruud in the French Open final before fending off Grigor Dimitrov inside the Paris Accor Arena.

Andre Agassi – 1999

Agassi was arguably at the peak of his powers in 1999, a season which saw him triumph twice in the French capital.

The American completed the career Grand Slam with victory at Roland Garros that summer, coming from two sets down to defeat Andrei Medvedev in the final.

A few months later the former world No 1 again triumphed in the City of Lights, battling past future major champion Marat Safin in four sets to claim the Paris Masters title.

That was a second title at the event for Agassi, who had previously triumphed in 1994.

Ilie Nastase – 1973

The first man to complete the Paris double was Nastase who, much like Agassi and Djokovic, is a former world No 1 and multiple Grand Slam winner.

Following his 1972 US Open triumph, Nastase captured the second of his two major singles titles at Roland Garros in 1973, breezing past Nikola Pilic in the final.

The Romanian then captured his sole Paris Masters title later that season, downing defending champion Stan Smith in a five-set final.
