Ben Shelton has broken new ground in the ATP Rankings, cracking the top 10 for the first time after reaching the semi-final of the Stuttgart Open.

The 22-year-old is now part of an exclusive group of US men to reach the top 10 since 2000, with Shelton being the ninth American to hit that milestone this century.

For this list, we are not factoring in players who had cracked the top 10 for the first time before 2000, which is why the likes of Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras are not featured.

Andy Roddick – No 1

To date, Roddick remains the only American man to both make his top-10 debut and go on to reach world No 1 in the 21st century.

Roddick cracked the top 10 for the first time in August 2002 and would debut as the world No 1 in September 2003, following his triumph at the US Open; he won 32 singles titles in total.

James Blake – No 4

Now the Miami Open tournament director, former world No 4 Blake remains one of the most successful US players of the new millennium.

The winner of 10 ATP Tour titles, Blake broke into the top 10 for the first time in March 2006 and rose to his career-high ranking that November.

Taylor Fritz – No 4

Current US No 1 Fritz has returned to his career-high of world No 4 after his Stuttgart Open triumph, the ninth ATP Tour title of his career to date.

The 27-year-old made his top-10 debut back in October 2022 and first reached world No 4 in November 2024, two months after reaching his maiden Grand Slam final at the US Open.

Mardy Fish – No 7

The winner of six ATP Tour titles and an Olympic silver medallist, Fish reached a career-high of world No 7 at the peak of his powers.

Fish debuted inside the top 10 in April 2011, and would go on to reach his career-high ranking of seventh that August.

Jack Sock – No 8

Now plying his trade as a professional pickleball player, Sock is part of the nine-man group to reach the top 10 this century.

Sock soared into the top 10 after winning the biggest title of his career at the 2017 Paris Masters, and rose to a career-high of world No 8 shortly afterwards.

John Isner – No 8

One of the most successful US male players of his generation, big-serving Isner won an impressive 16 ATP Tour titles and famously reached the semi-final of Wimbledon in 2018.

Isner first reached the top 10 in March 2012, though he would go on to reach his career high of world No 8 in July 2018, following his SW19 semi-final run – and Miami Open triumph earlier that year.

Tommy Paul – No 8

Now one of three US men inside the top 10 of the ATP Rankings (as of June 16, 2025), four-time ATP Tour titleist Paul currently sits at his career-high ranking of world No 8.

The 28-year-old cracked the top 10 at the start of 2025, and moved up to a new high of eighth after reaching the quarter-final of the French Open earlier this month.

Frances Tiafoe – No 10

Twice a semi-finalist at the US Open and the winner of three ATP titles, Tiafoe has become one of the leading US stars of his generation.

The 27-year-old reached a career-high of world No 10 in June 2023 and is currently ranked as the world No 13.

Ben Shelton – No 10

Shelton is now ranked as the world No 10 after an impressive start to 2025, which has seen him reach the last four of the Australian Open and the final of the Munich Open.

With Shelton joining Fritz and Paul in the top 1o, it is the first time since 2006 that three US men have been inside the top 10 of the ATP Rankings.
