The 5 women with biggest WTA Rankings jumps in 2024: ft Emma Raducanu, Naomi Osaka
There were plenty of big movers in the WTA Rankings, with some familiar faces joining some new stars in making huge leaps towards the very top of the sport.
With the 2o24 season now over, we look back at the five women who jumped further up the rankings than anyone else across 2024.
5) Lulu Sun
Start of 2024 Ranking: 214
End of 2024 Ranking: 40 (+174)
New Zealander Sun was named WTA Newcomer of the Year on Monday and it is easy to see why that is the case.
The 23-year-old started 2024 outside of the top 200 but is now ranked 40th in the world, and is on the cusp of potentially being seeded at Grand Slams in 2024.
Sun broke through with an epic run at Wimbledon, reaching the quarter-final stage as a qualifier, before reaching the first WTA final of her career in Monterrey this August.
4) Caroline Wozniacki
Start of 2024 Ranking: 256
End of 2024 Ranking: 70 (+186)
Having come out of retirement in 2023, former world No 1 Wozniacki broke back into the top 100 after playing frequently throughout the season.
The Dane was just outside of the top 250 at the start of 2024, but the mother of two finishes the year as the world No 70.
Wozniacki’s year was highlighted by reaching the fourth round of the US Open for the second straight season, while also reaching the third round of Wimbledon and last eight of Indian Wells.

3) Emma Raducanu
Start of 2024 Ranking: 301
End of 2024 Ranking: 57 (+244)
Raducanu’s 2024 certainly had its highs and lows but the former US Open winner returned to the top 60 of the WTA Rankings as she bounced back from significant injury struggles in 2023.
Having fallen outside of the top 300 in 2023, the Brit surged back up the rankings to finish 2024 as the world No 57, despite further injury issues towards the end of the season.
The best spell of Raducanu’s year came during the grass season, where she reached the fourth round of Wimbledon, the quarter-finals of Eastbourne, and the semi-finals in Nottingham.
2) Amanda Anisimova
Start of 2024 Ranking: 373
End of 2024 Ranking: 36 (+337)
Few would have begrudged Anisimova’s rise back up the WTA pecking order in 2024 after the American returned from a mental health break to crack the top 40.
The former prodigy is now back up to world No 36 in the WTA Rankings having started the season outside of the top 350.
Anisimova most memorably made the final of the Canadian Open this summer, though also reached the fourth round of the Australian Open.
1) Naomi Osaka
Start of 2024 Ranking: Unranked
End of 2024 Ranking: 58
Having missed the entirety of 2023 due to maternity leave, Osaka ends 2024 back inside the top 60 – having not had an official WTA ranking at the start of the season.
The Japanese’s comeback was not always straightforward but she did make significant strides from a rankings perspective and finishes 2024 as the world No 58.
Osaka reached the last eight of the Qatar Open and made the fourth round in both Rome and Beijing, among her best results of the year.
