The 4 women to win multiple Dubai titles: Justine Henin holds record, Elina Svitolina the only active player

Justine Henin holds the record for the most titles at the WTA Dubai Championships, while Venus Williams is one of three other women to win the event multiple times.

There have been 17 different champions in the 24 editions of the WTA tournament in Dubai, which was first held in 2001.

The Dubai Championships, which is currently a WTA 1000 event, is staged on outdoor hard courts at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre.

Here, we look at the four women who have won two or more titles at the Dubai Championships.

Justine Henin – 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007

Justine Henin defeated Anca Barna, Anastasia Myskina, Jennifer Capriati and Monica Seles during her maiden Dubai title run in 2003.

The following year, Henin triumphed over Selima Sfar, Conchita Martinez, Meghann Shaughnessy and Svetlana Kuznetsova to defend her crown.

The Belgian earned victories against Kateryna Bondarenko, Francesca Schiavone, Kuznetsova and Maria Sharapova to win the 2006 Dubai Championships.

Finally, Henin secured her fourth Dubai title in five years in 2007, when she beat Tamira Paszek, Eleni Daniilidou, Kuznetsova and Amelie Mauresmo.

The seven-time major champion and former world No 1 claimed her 2004 and 2006 Dubai titles without losing a set.

Venus Williams – 2009, 2010, 2014

Venus Williams overcame Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Alize Cornet, Elena Dementieva, Serena Williams and Virginie Razzano to triumph at the 2009 Dubai Championships.

The American defended her title in 2010 as she downed Sabine Lisicki, Olga Govortsova, Pavlyuchenkova, Shahar Pe’er and Victoria Azarenka.

In 2014, Williams secured her third and final Dubai crown by defeating Elena Vesnina, Ana Ivanovic, Flavia Pennetta, Caroline Wozniacki and Cornet.

Simona Halep – 2015, 2020

At the 2015 Dubai Championships, Simona Halep earned victories over Daniela Hantuchova, Tsvetana Pironkova, Ekaterina Makarova, Wozniacki and Karolina Pliskova as she won the event for the first time.

The Romanian lifted her second Dubai trophy in 2020 after defeating Ons Jabeur, Aryna Sabalenka, Jennifer Brady and Elena Rybakina.

Elina Svitolina – 2017, 2018

Elina Svitolina overcame Zheng Saisai, Christina McHale, Lauren Davis, Angelique Kerber and Wozniacki to collect her maiden Dubai Championships crown.

The Ukrainian made it back-to-back titles in 2018, when she saw off Wang Qiang, Naomi Osaka, Kerber and Daria Kasatkina.

Svitolina, the current world No 24, is the only active WTA player to have won the Dubai Championships on multiple occasions.
