The 7 women with most top-10 wins in 2024: ft Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka
Beating a top-10 opponent can be one of the trickiest tasks in tennis – but who had the most success in doing that in 2024?
We look back to see which WTA Tour stars recorded the most top-10 wins this past season.
=5) Victoria Azarenka – 5
Despite not winning a title, former world No 1 Azarenka remains a consistent force and finished a solid season as the world No 20.
And the Belarusian impressed against top-10 opponents in 2024, winning five of her 11 matches against the WTA elite.
Azarenka defeated Maria Sakarri twice, while also picking up wins over Jelena Ostapenko, Zheng Qinwen, and Elena Rybakina.
=5) Marta Kostyuk – 5
Kostyuk was one of the form players of the first half of the season, reaching her maiden Slam quarter-final at the Australian Open while making the last four of Indian Wells.
The Ukrainian played 10 matches against top-10 opponents across the year and picked up an impressive five wins, placing her joint fifth in this countdown.
World No 18 Kostyuk most notably beat world No 3 Coco Gauff and world No 8 Marketa Vondrousova in Stuttgart, also recording wins over Sakkari, Qinwen, and Jessica Pegula elsewhere.
=5) Zheng Qinwen – 5
Few players improved as much as Qinwen in 2024, with the Olympic champion and Australian Open runner-up cracking the top five by the end of the year.
The Chinese are one of three women to pick up five top-10 wins this year, and there are some significant scalps in there for the 22-year-old.
Qinwen famously stunned Iga Swiatek on her way to winning Olympic gold, while also beating Vondrousova and Rybakina – and recording two wins over Jasmine Paolini.
=3) Anna Kalinskaya – 7
Kalinskaya was one of the best stories of the season with the Russian soaring up the WTA Rankings in 2024, reaching finals in Dubai and Berlin.
And she recorded a staggering 77.8% of wins in her matches against top-10 opponents, going 7-2 versus opponents of that calibre.
The Russian picked up consecutive wins over Ostapenko, Gauff, and Swiatek in Dubai on her way to the biggest final of her career.
She also beat Ostapenko in Miami while recording further wins over Barbora Krejcikova, Vondrousova, and Sabalenka.

=3) Coco Gauff – 7
World No 3 Gauff faced criticism throughout parts of 2024, though her year-end ranking and haul of three titles suggest her season was not as bad as some would claim.
Only two women sealed more top-10 wins than the American this season, with the 20-year-old producing a solid 7-6 record against such opponents over the past 12 months.
She most notably defeated four top-10 players – Pegula, Swiatek, Sabalenka, and Qinwen – on her way to winning the WTA Finals title in Riyadh.
Gauff also beat Qinwen back in Rome, alongside two wins over Ons Jabeur in the summer.
=1) Aryna Sabalenka – 11
Sabalenka ended 2024 as the year-end No 1 with two Slam titles to her name, so it should come as no surprise to see her joint-top of this list.
The Belarusian won 56 matches in total in 2024 and 11 of them came against top-10 opponents, with just six losses to her name against such opposition.
The world No 1 beat Qinwen three times this season and Gauff twice, alongside beating Pegula to win finals at the Cincinnati Open and US Open.
Sabalenka also beat Swiatek in Cincinnati, while also picking up wins over the likes of Rybakina, Ostapenko, and Paolini.
=1) Iga Swiatek – 11
Swiatek may have lost her world No 1 ranking to Sabalenka but, much like her chief rival, also won 11 matches against top-10 opponents.
In fact, the Pole’s record was marginally better than the Belarusian – with an 11-5 record against her highest-ranked WTA opposition.
Swiatek defeated Sabalenka in Madrid and Rome, while also picking up two wins over Gauff and a Qatar Open final win over Rybakina.
Elsewhere, she picked up victories over Qinwen, Sakkari, Vondrousova, Paolini, Danielle Collins, and Daria Kasatkina.
