Whether it is in singles or doubles, triumphing at the WTA Finals is undoubtedly one of the biggest achievements in tennis.

Here, we look at the four women to do both – and claim both the singles and doubles titles at the year-end championships.

Martina Navratilova

Navratilova holds the record for the number of tournament victories in both singles and doubles, winning eight singles titles and a staggering 13 doubles titles at the year-end championships.

She managed to win both titles at the same tournament on five occasions, doing so in 1978, 1983, 1984, 1985, and 1986 (November).

Outside of those championships, she was also a singles champion in 1979, 1981, and 1986 (March), and reached a further six finals.

Pam Shriver was the partner for 10 of her 13 WTA Finals doubles triumphs, while she also won the title with Betty Stove in 1977, and Billie Jean King in 1978 and 1980.

Jana Novotna

Novotna is best remembered for her sole Grand Slam singles triumph at Wimbledon in 1988, though was also a 12-time major winner in women’s doubles.

And, in 1997, she managed to win both the singles and doubles titles at the WTA Finals in New York.

The Czech defeated Mary Pierce in straight sets to triumph in the singles event, while pairing up with Lindsay Davenport to win the doubles title.

Novotna had previously won the women’s doubles title at the Finals in 1995, playing alongside Arantxa Sanchez Vicario.

Martina Hingis

Hingis won multiple titles across the singles and doubles events at the year-end championships, though managed to win both titles in 2000.

The Swiss rallied from a set down to beat Monica Seles in the singles final, while she and Anna Kournikova paired up to capture the doubles crown.

Her singles victory was a second at the tournament, having previously defeated Davenport in the 1998 final, while she reached a further two finals.

Hingis also partnered Kournikova to win the doubles title in 1999, while triumphing alongside Sania Mirza during the third act of her career in 2015.

Lindsay Davenport

Davenport did not win the singles and doubles titles at the same championships but is a former champion in both formats.

Her sole WTA Finals singles title came in 1999, defeating longtime rival Hingis to lift the title after falling to the Swiss the previous year; she also finished as the runner-up in 1994 and 2001.

She won the doubles title for the first time in 1996, partnering with fellow American Mary Joe Fernandez to capture the title.

Davenport then teamed up with Novotna to triumph in 1997, and then won for a third straight season with a third different partner in 1998, playing alongside Natasha Zvereva.
