Ashleigh Barty’s preparations for Roland Garros suffer setback
Top seed Ashleigh Barty has pulled out of her final Roland Garros warm-up tournament due to a right-arm injury.
The world No 8 was due to take on fellow Australian Daria Gavrilova in the opening round of the Strasbourg International, but withdrew a couple of hours before the match.
“I felt that it was back. I tested myself, but this morning (Tuesday), I knew that I will not be able to play,” the 2019 Miami Open champion said.
“Next week there is Roland Garros… Then it’s the grass season. I will have two very busy months.
“For now, the only thing to do is to spend two or three days without touching the racket. I hope that I will be 100 per cent… next week.”
Latvian lucky loser Diana Marcinkevica has replaced Barty in the draw.
