Iga Swiatek sorry for being ‘boring’ after bagelling Wang Xinyu

Top seed Iga Swiatek trounced China’s Wang Xinyu 6-0, 6-0 in the third round of the women’s singles event at the French Open on Saturday.
Swiatek has won the French Open twice and is the reigning champion. She required just 51 minutes to beat Xinyu.
“It was a really solid performance from me. It’s not easy to keep winning and keep your focus. I’m pretty happy I was so disciplined and took care of everything in my tennis,” said Swiatek.
“I don’t think if I played every point like a match point I’d be very good, match points are stressful. Honestly, every point is important for me, I think at the highest level every point matters. I know I need to use that skill later when I’m probably going to have tighter matches and really tight games. Sorry, I’m boring.
“I always try to kind of be careful, because you don’t want to get lazy after winning these matches. It’s never easy to win these matches. But on the other hand, sometimes all your head can remember is the score, and I always want to kind of be ready for every situation.
“I don’t feel like it’s a problem for me, because I had many matches like that. But kind of also reset from all the other stuff and the expectations and just go to another match like it’s a new one.”

Former world No 1 and three-time French Open winner Mats Wilander praised Swiatek’s dominant performance on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
“She doesn’t need a tough match; winning easily 6-0, 6-0 is relaxing and her confidence is going to keep growing. Thank goodness for Wang the double-bagelling was in the third round. These matches happen often in the first round and you feel awful after. That’ll hurt for Wang, but Iga – wow. Ruthless,” Wilander told Eurosport.
“She’s not playing every point like it’s match point, but she’s trying to play great on every point, and there’s a big difference between the two. When you play great on every point, it doesn’t mean you win all of them, but you play them the way you want to play them.
“That’s what she does so well and it’s very hard to keep the focus when you’re winning this easily on clay. It’s great practice. It’s not important for her to get tested in three sets. She’s testing herself every point, with every shot having a meaning to it. She’s saving energy, and her tournament hasn’t started yet.”
