Chris Evert offers ruthless take on Novak Djokovic’s French Open hopes

Age has caught up with Novak Djokovic and he is unlikely to win the 2025 French Open with tennis great Chris Evert saying “I don’t think he can still have really high moments”.
Djokovic has won only two tournaments since the start of the 2024 campaign as he claimed gold at the Paris Olympics in August last year to complete his Career Golden Slam and move to 99 singles titles.
It took him another nine months to finally claim his magical 100th trophy as he moved to three figures when he beat Hubert Hurkacz in the final of the Geneva Open, the final warm-up event before Roland Garros.
The 24-time Grand Slam winner has suffered several early exits from tournaments in recent months and he has admitted that his confidence level is on the low side.
“I have to be realistic. Considering the last year and a half… I won gold, reached the finals in Wimbledon, Shanghai, and Miami, came close to winning big titles, but the consistency in good performances hasn’t been there,” he said ahead of the clay-court major.
“I’m still searching for the confidence, the level of play and movement needed to win a Slam.”

Former world No 1 and TNT Sports tennis expert Evert offered her views on the sixth seed’s hopes at this year’s tournament in Paris, stating: “When you get older, you get in your late middle late 30s early 40s whatever, you just know what happens is you don’t have your A game every single match.
“You know you have more ups and downs and so consistently to win a major you have to play seven matches consistently you have your A game because the field is too tough if you play your B or C if he plays his B or C game.
“The way he’s playing right now, he’s not gonna win. So he would have to play spectacular tennis like every single match.
“And I mean, I could see him definitely getting to the second week. I could seem getting to a semi, but I don’t know him.
“I don’t know after watching him the last few weeks, I don’t see him winning this title. I don’t see … you know… I think this week will tell a lot.
“But I think it’s age rather than anything. I think it’s your body, his body was at its prime probably, five years ago.
“You know it, he’s not at his best. I don’t think he can still have really high moments, but I don’t think on a consistent level he can play his best tennis.”
