Dominic Thiem finally bested Greek teenager Stefanos Tsitsipas on Thursday to book his place in the third round at the French Open.

The seventh seed was two-sets-to-one ahead on Wednesday night when darkness intervened, but returned to the court the following morning to complete a 6-2 2-6 6-4 6-4 triumph.

Italian 22-year-old Matteo Berrettini awaits in the third round after he dumped out former Roland-Garros semi-finalist Ernests Gulbis on Wednesday.

Third seed Marin Cilic is also into the third round after beating Hubert Hurkacz 6-2 6-2 6-7 7-5.

They’ll be joined in the next stage of the tournament by Fabio Fognini and Steve Johnson, who overcame Elias Ymer and Jan-Lennard Struff respectively.

Canadian teenager Denis Shapovalov is out, though, after he fell to German Maximilian Marterer 7-5 6-7 5-7 4-6.
