Former French Open finalist Marketa Vondrousova out of Roland Garros after undergoing ‘small surgery’
Marketa Vondrousova won’t feature at Roland Garros this year as the 2019 runner-up has undergone a “small” operation on her wrist.
The Czech, who was beaten by Ashleigh Barty in the 2019 French Open final, has not played on the WTA Tour since losing her opening match of the Stuttgart Open in mid-April.
After experiencing pain in her wrist, the Tokyo Olympics silver medallist was advised to undergo surgery.
“The last few weeks were not easy☹️,” she wrote on Instagram. “I have been experiencing recurring pain in my wrist and after seeing a couple of doctors I decided to get this small surgery done to be able to play pain free.
“Staying positive through the recovery and cant wait to be back on the court soon”
The 2022 French Open gets underway on May 22 and Frenchwoman Chloe Paquet has replaced Vondrousova in the main draw.
