Garbine Muguruzu dominates Maria Sharapova to ease into semi-finals
Maria Sharapova’s French Open comeback was left in shatters by a dominant Garbine Muguruza.
The Russian, back Roland Garros having missed the last two tournaments due to her doping ban, was comprehensively dismantled 6-2 6-1 by the third seed and reigning Wimbledon champion Muguruza.
Sharapova started poorly, perhaps due to her not having a game for three days after Serena Williams pulled out of their last-16 match, with two desperately poor service games handing Muguruza an immediate 4-0 lead and subsequently the first set.

It didn’t get much better in the second, either, as Muguruza bulldozed her way through to secure her place in the semi-finals.
