Andy Murray: I want to be able to compete properly at Wimbledon
Andy Murray will make a decision on his Wimbledon participation by Friday, but he will only play if he is able to do himself “justice”.
The three-time Grand Slam winner made his long-awaited return to action at Queen’s Club last week, going down in three tight sets to Nick Kyrgios.
He stepped up his comeback at Eastbourne this week, winning his opener against Stan Wawrinka before being beaten in two sets by British No 1 Kyle Edmund.
Murray, though, is yet to decide if he will compete in Wimbledon and he first wants to see how his body reacts after two matches in one week.
“It’s just [a matter of] whether I feel like I’m able to do myself justice…,” he said.
“Two weeks ago I practised with Kyle and I didn’t win a game. That was the first set or points that I played in six months… I have made decent improvements the last couple of weeks and obviously have been somewhat competitive in the matches that I have played.
“I don’t just want to go out there to just play. I want to be able to compete properly. And if I don’t feel like I can do that, then I won’t play. If I do and physically I feel ready, mentally I’m in the right place, then I’ll go for it.”
