French Open day three: Mikael Ymer stunner against Novak Djokovic, and Mo Salah backing for Mayar Sherif

A look back at day three of the 2020 French Open as world No 1 Novak Djokovic kicks off his campaign while Karolina Pliskova survives.
A miserable French Open for Britain’s singles players was completed by a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 defeat for Heather Watson against Fiona Ferro.
There was much better news for Djokovic, who returned to Grand Slam action following his US Open disqualification with a 6-0, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Mikael Ymer.
Women’s second seed Karolina Pliskova survived a battle against Mayar Sherif while Stefanos Tsitsipas came back from two sets down to beat Jaume Munar.

Sherif’s achievements have attracted the attention of Liverpool and Egypt football star Mohamed Salah, who retweeted posts about her success.
Sherif, 24, said on rolandgarros.com: “It’s very, very nice to get this kind of support from someone who is already very, very good, and someone who is very special from Egypt. Salah is someone who is one of a kind. So it’s very nice, it made me feel like, ‘Oh, someone important is following, thank God’.”
