Tennis players dominate the internet searches for ‘hot’ sporting stars

Tennis stars have dominated the female sporting money lists for many years and now they have come out on top in a survey of fans looking for ‘hot’ sports stars.
Naomi Osaka, Emma Raducanu and Serena Williams were listed as the highest earning sports stars in the most recent Forbes list, with their earnings off the court adding considerably to their prize money on it.
World No 1 Iga Swiatek, five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams and America star Coca Gauff also feature in the top ten of the money list, confirming tennis is the ultimate earning platform for female sporting greats.
While an appearance on a ‘hottest sports stars’ list might not be quite so welcome for the game’s biggest names, a survey by Spin Genie has revealed that fans are actively looking for the tennis players they admire for more than their ground shots on serve engines.
From the pitch to the court, sports stars are held up as idols by their adoring fans.
However, it’s not necessarily just their athletic abilities that make sports stars such loved figures.
Whether it’s charisma, style, or just straight-up physical attractiveness, many sports stars also feature fairly prominently when it comes to people’s celebrity crushes.
Now research has revealed how many fans around the world are looking for tennis stars on search engines.
For each athlete, this survey found the number of searches for their name followed by the word “hot” in the last two years, to reveal which garner the most affection.
Alisha Lehmann, who plays football for Aston Villa in the English WSL and the Swiss national team, comes in at first place and received over 491,100 searches. She’s also known for her social media presence off the field, with over 13 million followers as of May 2023, making her the most followed women’s footballer.
Emma Raducanu is second on the list, with over 360,000 searches in the last two years.
The British tennis player burst onto the scene in 2021, winning the US Open at just 18 years old, making her the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title since Virginia Wade in 1977.
Italy’s Camila Giorgi comes in third place with over a quarter of a million searches in the last two years.
On the court, Giorgi is known for her aggressive style of play and came to international recognition in 2012 after reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon as a qualifier, defeating several higher-ranked players on the way.
Tennis legends Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova were also in the top six of the survey, confirming their popularity is enduring long after their careers have finished.
