Emma Raducanu one Miami Open win away from huge rankings achievement

Emma Raducanu’s thrilling return to form is firing her back up the WTA Rankings and now she is just one win away from reclaiming a prestigious title.
Raducanu shot to global fame as she won the US Open in 2021, with the 2,000 ranking points she collected for that iconic win in New York helping her to achieve a career high of No 10.
Three and a half years on and Raducanu’s ranking is in a very different place, as she dropped outside the top 200 following an injury plauded 2023 and managed to clamber back into the top 100 last year.
Her run to the quarter-finals at the Maimi Open has secured her a place in the last eight of a WTA 1000 event for the first time in her career and also ensured that she will be back in the top 50 of the WTA Rankings when they are updated next Monday.
Now the 22-year-old is eyeing up another impressive milestone as she is just one win away from overtaking Katie Boulter to become British No 1 once again.
A run to the semi-finals in Miami would also push Raducanu into the top 40 of the WTA Rankings and if she continues to win, a top 32 place could be hers at the end of this week.

That would be significant as it would give her a seeded position looking ahead to the French Open in May.
There is also huge scope for a revived Raducanu to make further rankings leaps as she has limited points to defend from 2024 in the upcoming European clay court season.
Staying injury-free and using the confidence she will inevitably gain from her run in Miami will fuel Raducanu’s ambitions for the rest of 2025 and she was in dominant form once again as she beat No 17 seed Amanda Anisimova 6-1, 6-3 in convincing fashion to book her quarter-final spot in Miami.
“I’ve come a long way in the last week, I think, since Indian Wells,” Raducanu said on Sky Sports Tennis.
“I wasn’t necessarily feeling great about my tennis, about everything, but this week I have, yeah, some really good people around me who I trust and who I have fun with off the court as well and that’s extremely important.
“For me, who’s just very expressive, and when I play my best, I’m definitely authentic, true to myself and creative – and I feel when I’m boxed in into a regimented way, then I’m not able to kind of express myself in the same way. So I’m happy with how I kind of realised that this week as well.”
She also spoke about her growing confidence in her press conference after the Anisimova win.
“I feel comfortable,” she stated. “I feel like in my environment, in my surroundings with the people I’m with, I feel pretty relaxed, and I can be myself and expressive and true to myself.
“That’s important for me. Yeah, I’m really happy with how things are on and off the court right now and just also happy that I was able to kind of transfer on to the match court.
“I think that’s the biggest win for me is just feeling a lot of hunger, feeling on the court competitive, wanting to run down every ball, and that’s the biggest win I would say from this week.”
