Emma Raducanu splits with yet another coach – what comes next?

Emma Raducanu has parted company with another coach, with Vladimir Platenik leaving her team after just one match of his trial period.

Raducanu’s regular coaching changes have been a recurring theme of her career and now Platenik can be added to the list of former advisers after he parted ways with the 2021 US Open champion after one match in Indian Wells.

“Emma and Vlado have parted ways,” said Raducanu’s spokesperson.

“Emma has utmost respect for Vlado and the work they started but it wasn’t quite heading in the right direction.

“Emma is now focused on doing as well as she can here in Miami after her a solid start today and will continue looking for the right coach.”

This latest exit comes after Nick Cavaday ended his partnership with Raducanu after the Australian Open in January as he wanted to focus on his health.

That was a blow to Raducanu, who worked with Cavaday during her junior days and he appeared to be a good fit for her team in her professional career.

The rapid end to the partnership with Platenik is a surprise as he hinted during Indian Wells that he expected to work with the young Brit through to the French Open in May.

In that same interview, Platenik was quoted as suggesting working with Raducanu was ‘coaching suicide’ and it is not clear whether that comment played a role in the quick end to the working relationship.

Raducanu has suggested she is not comfortable with the constant coaching changes she has been through, as she claimed he wanted stability in her set-up.

“It’s never really been my interest or philosophy to chop and change coaches. I’ve never really wanted that.

“I’m a very loyal person, whether that’s with my tennis or off the court. Or with what I eat. When I find something I like, I stick to it. I eat the same thing every single day.

“Same salmon every single day. I like those relationships and I think in the past, unfortunately, it hasn’t always worked like this.”

Respected broadcaster Marcus Buckland told Tennis365 that Raducanu’s coaching issues will continue to haunt her unless she finds a stable team leader to take her game to the next level.

Why Emma Raducanu’s return to Instagram was always inevitable

Emma Raducanu: How much money has she earned and what comes next?

“What Raducanu needs to do is find a coach she can have a meaningful relationship with for an extended period of time, at least a couple of years,” added Buckland.

“She needs to find that consistency on court and build some momentum. I think the key for her is to establish a strong team off the court to give her the strength to deal with everything else that comes her way.

“There is a lot of mental scarring from everything that has happened to her since she won the US Open.

“It’s been such a roller-coaster ride, but she has a wonderful game. She can mix it with the best, but does she really believe that?

“Until she starts getting some big wins against the top players, those doubts are going to persist and that’s why she might start to ask why she is putting herself through this.”
