Morgan Riddle: Taylor Fritz’s girlfriend speaks out amid Alexander Zverev Wimbledon saga

Morgan Riddle has written that comments on a now-deleted Instagram story were “blown out of proportion” amid a saga concerning her partner Taylor Fritz’s dramatic Wimbledon win.
US No 1 Fritz came from two sets to love down to reach the Wimbledon quarter-final on Monday, battling past fourth seed Alexander Zverev to reach a second quarter-final at the All England Club.
Zverev engaged Fritz in a lengthy conversation at the net following the conclusion of the match, connecting with some of the support Fritz was receiving from his player box.
“His team is extremely respectful. I think his coach, his physio, also his second coach, they’re extremely respectful,” said Zverev in his post-match press conference, following a 4-6 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 6-3 loss.
“I think there’s some other people that maybe are in the box that are not maybe from the tennis world, that are not maybe from particularly watching every single match.
“They were a bit over the top. That’s okay. No issues. No drama. He fought back from two sets to love, so they’re obviously all excited, very pumped up, yeah. But no issues with Taylor.”
However, the controversy surrounding the dramatic match – and the conversation of the net – was flamed by Riddle’s Instagram story post later in the afternoon.
The 26-year-old wrote that Fritz’s win was “a win for the girls,” something many fans assumed alluded to two previous allegations of domestic abuse made against the world No 4 – which he has repeatedly denied.
However, Riddle has now taken to Instagram today to categorically deny this was the case.
She wrote: “Regarding my stories yesterday…
“I took them down as soon as I realized the misunderstanding and how blown out of proportion they had become by the media. They were not about anything that’s happened off the tennis court & there’s no bad blood between anyone.
“Super proud of T for the match yesterday, thank you to the crowd for the support and looking forward to tomorrow.”
Fritz will be hoping to avoid any ongoing controversy surrounding Zverev and the match ahead of his quarter-final against Lorenzo Musetti on Wednesday.
It is the US star’s fourth Grand Slam quarter-final and second at SW19, and he is looking to reach a first Grand Slam semi-final – as is his Italian opponent.
