Stefanos Tsitsipas has revealed his relationship with Paula Badosa was “love at first sight” as paired opened up about their time together in a joint interview.

Greek ATP star Tsitsipas and Spanish WTA star Badosa are one of the highest-profile couples in tennis, with the pair first announcing their relationship last season.

The couple split briefly earlier this year but reunited just a few weeks later and have a prominent following on social media.

Now, in a joint interview with Spanish magazine Hola, Tsitsipas and Badosa have opened up about the early stages of their relationship.

Former world No 3 Tsitsipas, currently ranked 11th in the world, revealed he was “mesmerized” when he first saw Badosa – but it took them a while to meet properly.

“It’s funny, but Paula and I have never met at tournaments,” said the Greek.

“In fact, we only saw each other two or three times before I had the chance to approach her to say hello and introduce myself.

“I first noticed Paula when I saw her at the Australian Open in 2020, when she was playing on centre court. It was love at first sight and from that day on I was completely mesmerized.

“I remember thinking to myself that one day we will be together.”

Tsitsipas has been a consistent force towards the top of the men’s game for several years, though Badosa has faced more challenges in her career.

She famously won Indian Wells in 2021 and reached world No. 2 in the rankings early in 2022, though she then struggled with form before a long-term back injury derailed her career.

Badosa fell outside the top 100 of the WTA Rankings earlier this season though a resurgent summer saw her win the Washington Open and reach the last eight of the US Open.

The 26-year-old is back up to 12th in the rankings and revealed that meeting Tsitsipas amid her injury issues brought “light” into her world.

She added: “I met Stef right after my injury. It was one of the hardest seasons for me because I have never spent so many months without playing tennis.

“And he brought me the happiness, support and fresh air that I needed so much at that time. I felt very happy to have light in my life during such a dark time.”

Badosa has ended her 2024 season, while Tsitsipas is in action at the Paris Masters.
