Czech gold medallists keep relationship status ‘top secret’ amid reunion rumours

Czech stars Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac refused to confirm or deny if they were back together after storming to Olympic mixed doubles gold in Paris.

Last week, Siniakova – a nine-time Grand Slam champion in doubles – revealed to Czech media that she had called time on her relationship with Machac after a three-year relationship.

However, despite the split, the pair proceeded with their plan to play mixed doubles together at the Olympic Games – and took home the gold medal.

After beating top seeds Alexander Zverev and Laura Siegemund of Germany in round one, the Czech pair then defeated Japan’s Kei Nishikori and Ena Shibahara and Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Felix Auger-Aliassime to reach the final.

Siniakova and Machac were pushed to the brink by China’s Zhang Zhizhen and Wang Xinyu – but prevailed 6-2, 5-7, [10-8] to claim the title.

Speculation grew across the Games whether Siniakova, 28, and Machac, 23, had resumed their relationship.

And that only grew in the immediate aftermath of the final, with the two sharing a quick impromptu kiss after sealing victory.

However, when asked about their relationship status in press afterwards, the two remained coy.

“This is top secret,” stated Machac.

Siniakova jokingly added: “That’s our personal life, so you don’t need to know that – we like [it] when you are confused.”

Siniakova and Machac’s triumph continues a run of strong success for Czechia in tennis events at the Olympic Games, with this the fourth straight Games the nation has won at least one tennis medal.

In Tokyo, Siniakova won women’s doubles gold alongside Barbora Krejcikova, while the likes of Marketa Vondrousova and Petra Kvitova have won singles medals in Tokyo and Rio respectively.

It was also Czechia’s first gold medal of Paris 2024, having picked up just one bronze medal before the pair’s final on Friday night.

The triumph extended what has been a truly stunning summer for Siniakova, cementing her place as one of the leading doubles players of her generation – and one of the greatest of all time.

The 28-year-old won the French Open women’s doubles with Coco Gauff before switching partners and winning Wimbledon with Taylor Towsend and now has a second Olympic title.

She now holds two Olympic gold medals and a career Grand Slam in women’s doubles, alongside 27 WTA doubles titles.

It also continues Machac’s recent rise, with the 23-year-old reaching his first ATP singles final earlier in 2024.
