Andy Murray has faced 276 different opponents during his playing career and 35 of those players have a winning record against the former world No 1.

Unsurprisingly, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer lead the way with most wins over Murray.

Of the 35 players with a winning record against the three-time Grand Slam winner, 23 players are still active on the ATP Tour, but 13 of the 23 active players have faced Murray only once.

Casper Ruud, Tommy Paul and Jack Draper are some of the high-profile names who have won their only match against Murray.

Let’s look at the 13 active players who have faced him more than once.

1. Novak Djokovic 25-11

Djokovic has dominated the head-to-head with Murray as he won the first four encounters and the closest that the Scot got to drawing level was when he got to 8-7, but the Serbian pulled away again after that.

Interestingly, they have met 10 times in Grand Slams with Djokovic winning eight of those matches. Six of Djokovic’s Grand Slam wins came in finals while Murray most notably won the 2012 US Open final and the 2013 Wimbledon final.

They have not played each other since the 2017 season although they were due to meet at the 2022 Madrid Open, but Murray withdrew due to injury.

2. Rafael Nadal 17-7

If this was a quiz and we asked “How many of Murray’s wins against Nadal were on grass?” you would probably answer “most of them”.

However, Nadal has won all three of their matches on grass with all three matches coming at Wimbledon. In case you were wondering, Nadal leads 7–2 on clay, 3–0 on grass and 7–5 on hard courts.

3. Alex de Minaur 6-0

Andy Murray is yet to to taste victory against Alex de Minaur with the Australian winning their six encounters to date, although one was a walkover.

The duo faced each other four times in 2023 and the result was always the same. De Minaur won in straight sets in Monte Carlo and Queen’s Club while Murray managed to take a set off the Australian in Beijing and Paris.

4. Fabio Fognini 5-4

One of Murray’s great on-court foes has the edge over him in terms of matches won.

Murray at one point led 3-2 and also 4-3, but Fognini has won their two most recent encounters – a three-set victory at the Rome Masters in 2023 and another three-set win at the Shanghai Masters in 2019.

The Shanghai Masters encounter was infamous as the pair had a shouting match during the clash and then continued their argument off court.

5. Roberto Bautista Agut 4-3

Andy Murray won his first three matches against Roberto Bautista Agut, but the Spaniard has won their four most recent encounters to edge ahead in their head-to-head.

The Scot’s last win against Bautista Agut came at the peak of his career at the Shanghai Masters in 2016, but the former world No 9 has claimed wins at the Australian Open (2), Doha and Basel since then.

6. Daniil Medvedev 3-0

Like Alex de Minaur, Daniil Medvedev also hasn’t lost a match against Murray. Medvedev is also one up against De Minaur as he is also yet to drop a set against the three-time Grand Slam winner.

Medvedev won their first encounter at the 2018 Brisbane International and won again at the 2022 Miami Masters.

Their most-recent clash was in the final of the 2023 Qatar Open with Medvedev taking it 6-4, 6-4.

7. Matteo Berrettini 3-2

With the head-to-head so close, there is still a chance that Murray could pull level or even win the H2H before he retires.

Murray won their first match in straight sets in 2019 before Berrettini claimed victories at Queen’s Club (2021), Stuttgart (2022) and the US Open (2022).

However, Murray has won their most-famous encounter at the 2023 Australian Open as he pulled off a 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (8-6) in four hours and 49 minutes.

8. Stefanos Tsitsipas 2-1

Two of the three matches between Tsitsipas and Murray went the distance and on both occasions it was the Greek who emerged victorious.

Tsitsipas’ wins came at the US Open in 2021 and Wimbledon in 2023 while Murray won in straight sets in Stuttgart in 2022.

9. Hubert Hurkacz 2-1

Murray and Hurkacz met three times during the 2021 tennis season and the Pole won the first two matches in Cincinnati and Metz in straight sets before Murray won in three sets in Vienna.

10. Taylor Fritz – 2-0

American Taylor Fritz notched up his first win against Murray at the 2022 Canadian Open, winning in straight sets.

He also won their second encounter at the Citi Open in Washington in July 2023 with Murray winning the opening set before Fritz won the final two sets.

11. Felix Auger-Aliassime – 2-0

Felix Auger-Aliassime and Murray met for the first time at the 2020 US Open and it was the Canadian who came away with the 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Two years later they met in the round of 16 in Rotterdam and Auger-Aliassime won again, again in straight sets.

12. Aslan Karatsev – 2-0

Aslan Karatsev has had Murray’s number during their two encounters with the Russian winning in straight sets in Sydney in 2022 and in three sets at Zhuhai in 2023.

13. Sebastian Korda – 2-0

Young American Sebastian Korda finished runner-up at the 2023 Adelaide International and en route to the final he defeated Murray 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

His other win also came when he finished up as a finalist, this time in Gijon in 2022 as he won 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 against his more esteemed opponent.

And in case you were wondering about the retired players, Roger Federer has a 14-11 record against Murray with Mario Ancic next best with 3-2 while Fernando Gonzalez is 2-1.
