Carlos Alcaraz remains in the driving seat to be the year-end No 1 in the ATP Rankings as he continues to dominate the Race To Turin.

The Spaniard has increased his points advantage over reigning world No 1 Jannik Sinner – who finished the 2024 season in top spot – after winning his fourth title in five tournaments.

Sinner dominated the early standings on the back of his Australian Open title run, but Alcaraz has been in incredible form as he has won the Monte Carlo Masters (1,000), Italian Open (1,000), French Open (2,000) and most recently the Queen’s Club Championships (500) in the past two months.

The tally of 4,500 has helped the five-time Grand Slam winner to surge to 6,240 points for a 2,240-point lead over Sinner in the ATP Rankings Race To Turin.

The Race is also a key marker for the year-end No 1 ranking as the player who finishes top usually claims the year-end No 1 honour.

Alcaraz finished as the year-end No 1 in 2022 while Djokovic was top in 2023 with Sinner following in 2024.

The top eight places in the Race To Turin at the end of the regular ATP Tour season will secure their places at the year-end ATP Finals in Turin.

Should a current-year Grand Slam champion not feature among the top eight, then the final spot will go to a major player if he sits between ninth and 20th in the Race.

Players who are ninth or 10th in the rankings will earn the alternate spots for the ATP Finals and step up should one of the eight qualifiers be unable to play.

As for the current standings, Sinner – who missed several tournaments during his three-month ban from February until May – is now also under pressure in second place as Alexander Zverev as the German is 730 points adrift.

There is only one change in the top 10 as Holger Rune has moved up one place to No 10 with Ben Shelton dropping to No 11.

Seven-time ATP Finals champion Novak Djokovic is also comfortably inside the top eight, but he opted not to compete in 2024 despite qualifying and could do the same this year.

Alexander Bublik’s run to the French Open quarter-final and his Halle Open title have helped to surge into contention as he now sits in 18th place with 1,445 points.
