2025 BMW Open Munich Entry List: Zverev, Fritz & Shelton headline new ATP 500 event
The BMW Open in Munich has been upgraded to ATP 500 level for this year’s tournament, and five players in the top 20 of the ATP Rankings are set to feature.
The clay-court tournament, which is also known as the Bavarian International Tennis Championships, will run from April 14 to 20. This will be the 109th edition of the event.
Jan-Lennard Struff is the reigning champion, having beaten Taylor Fritz in the 2024 championship match to secure his maiden ATP title.
World No 2 Alexander Zverev headlines a field that also includes Fritz, Ben Shelton, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Ugo Humbert. Surprisingly, Zverev has not reached the final in Munich since winning his second title at the tournament in 2018.
How many players will feature in the main draw?
The BMW Open singles main draw will be contested by 32 players, including four qualifiers and four wildcards.
Who has received wildcards?
Justin Engel, a 17-year-old German prospect ranked 346th, has received a wildcard. The other three wildcards are yet to be revealed.
Have any players withdrawn?
World No 53 Zhang Zhizhen is the only player to pull out, with his spot in the main draw filled by Roberto Carballes Baena.
Which former champions will play?
Two Munich champions are on the main draw entry list: Zverev (2017 and 2018) and Struff (2024).

Have any players used a protected ranking to enter?
Players who have been unable to compete in any events for a minimum of six months due to injury are eligible to use the ATP protected ranking system.
The protected ranking will be determined by the player’s average ranking position during the first three months of their injury. They can use the protected ranking to enter nine tournaments and for a period of nine months from the first event they play after returning.
However, no players have used a protected ranking to enter Munich.
