The hard-court summer is officially underway at the Citi DC Open in Washington, and the first Masters 1000 event of the swing starts in less than a week.

The ATP Tour heads to Toronto this year for the 2025 Canadian Open, though the tournament has been affected by a string of significant withdrawals in recent days.

Here, we take you through who is in and out of the tournament, with action set to get underway on July 27th inside the Sobeys Stadium.

Who is out?

The build-up to the tournament has become increasingly fraught in recent days, with a string of high-profile withdrawals from the Masters 1000 event.

World No 1 Jannik Sinner withdrew on Sunday, alongside world No 5 Jack Draper and world No 6 Novak Djokovic.

They were then followed out of the tournament by Carlos Alcaraz, with the world No 2 confirming his withdrawal on Monday – after initial reports claiming he would pull out the previous day.

2022 runner-up Hubert Hurkacz, Sebastian Korda, and Jordan Thompson have also withdrawn from the tournament due to injury issues.

The top seeds

In the absence of Sinner and Alcaraz, world No 3 and 2017 Canadian Open champion Alexander Zverev is set to be the top seed in Toronto.

Zverev will be joined by world No 4 Taylor Fritz, with the American set to be the second seed, and therefore headline the bottom half of the draw.

The top four seeds are currently set to be rounded out by Lorenzo Musetti and Ben Shelton, who will be seeded third and fourth, respectively.

Holger Rune is set to be the fifth seed, with Andrey Rublev sixth, Frances Tiafoe seventh, and Casper Ruud eighth.

Who else is entered?

Despite the string of big-name withdrawals, there are still plenty of recognisable ATP Tour stars set to be in action outside the top eight seeds.

Alex de Minaur and Daniil Medvedev are set to be the ninth and 10th seeds, respectively, with Tommy Paul and Karen Khachanov seeded 11th and 12th.

Miami Open champion Jakub Mensik, Wimbledon quarter-finalist Flavio Cobolli, and Francisco Cerundolo are also within the top 16 seeds at the event.

Grigor Dimitrov is currently set to be the 16th seed, though he will likely withdraw after his Wimbledon injury heartbreak.

Twelve months on from his stunning triumph, reigning champion Alexei Popyrin is currently set to be the 20th seed.

Home favourites Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov are set to be 22nd and 23rd seeds, respectively, with fellow Canadian Gabriel Diallo currently the 30th seed.

In his first match since his Wimbledon round-one retirement, Stefanos Tsitsipas is currently seeded 25th.

High-profile stars such as Gael Monfils and Matteo Berrettini are set to be unseeded, while rising teen star João Fonseca is set to make his main draw debut.

Home favourites Liam Draxl and Vasek Pospisil, who is playing the final tournament of his career, have both received wildcards into the draw.

Seventy-six of the 96 player spots are currently filled, with the rest of the spots set to be filled through further wildcards, special exemptions, or qualifiers.
