ATP Live Rankings Turin: Casper Ruud usurps Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev extends Carlos Alcaraz gap

The ATP Finals is only two days in, but there have already been some significant results.
Ahead of round two of group stage action, we look at how the rankings shake up after Sunday and Monday’s results.
Ruud usurps Djokovic
The biggest talking point of the opening two days in Turin was a surprise win for Casper Ruud, who overturned a 0-4 head-to-head against Carlos Alcaraz to beat the Spaniard 6-1, 7-5.
That was a significant win for Ruud in terms of group progression, with the Norwegian now well-placed to potentially reach the last four – despite seven losses in his previous eight matches.
And, significantly, it means he is currently set to move up the ATP Live Rankings.
Having entered Turin as the world No 7, 200 points for his opening win sees the Norwegian sit on 4,055 points, moving ahead of Novak Djokovic on 3,910 points.
With the Serbian not in action, Ruud could potentially extend his points cushion at the ATP Finals, though is not guaranteed a rankings rise yet.
Djokovic in further peril
Djokovic has fallen to seventh in the ATP Live Rankings, though could fall to ninth should results go against him.
Alex de Minaur and Andrey Rublev – the seventh and eighth seeds in Turin – are both within 200 ranking points of the 24-time major winner, meaning one group stage victory would see them leapfrog the Serb.
De Minaur and Rublev both lost their opening matches, with the Australian falling to an eighth defeat in as many matches to Jannik Sinner, and Rublev beaten by Alexander Zverev.
Seventh seed de Minaur continues his campaign on Tuesday against Daniil Medvedev, while Rublev is next in action against Carlos Alcaraz tomorrow.
Both men could also still move ahead of Ruud, should results go their way.

Zverev extends Alcaraz advantage
A key battle in Turin sees Zverev and Alcaraz battle to try and finish the season as the world No 2 – a fight that has big implications for the Australian Open in January.
Zverev entered the ATP Finals 505 points ahead of the Spaniard and is now in pole position to finish the year directly behind world No 1 Sinner.
The German’s 200 points for beating Rublev, coupled with Alcaraz’s loss to Ruud, means he moves to 7,515 points in the ATP Live Rankings, while Alcaraz remains on 6,810.
Alcaraz can still topple his German rival and finish the year as the world No 2, though will need to make the last four – ideally winning both his matches against Rublev and Zverev – to have a significant chance.
He could also do with Ruud defeating Zverev on Wednesday to provide a further opening.
What else to watch?
Sinner is ensured of world No 1 and Alcaraz and Zverev will be No 2 and No 3 – in whatever order – but the world No 4 ranking is up for grabs.
Daniil Medvedev is the current world No 4 but the Russian was beaten in his opening round by Taylor Fritz, who is now only 330 points behind him.
A strong run for the American, coupled with an early Medvedev exit, could see the US Open finalist reach a new career-high of fourth.
Ruud, de Minaur, and Rublev also have slim chances of rising as high as fourth, though would need to win the event and hope other results fall in their favour.
