The 2025 Barcelona Open promises to be an intriguing and high-level tournament, with five of the top 10 players on the ATP Tour set to play.

The ATP 500 event is staged on the clay courts of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona.

This year’s event, which will be held from April 14 to 20, will be the 72nd edition of the tournament.

Casper Ruud is the reigning champion, having downed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the 2024 final to claim his biggest career title.

Carlos Alcaraz will return to Barcelona for the first time since winning the title in 2023 after injury forced him out of last year’s event.

How many players will feature in the main draw?

The Barcelona Open singles main draw will be contested by 32 players, including six qualifiers and four wildcards.

Who has received wildcards?

Kei Nishikori, Pablo Carreno Busta and Stan Wawrinka have all been given main draw wildcards, with the fourth recipient yet to be announced.

Nishikori has won the Barcelona Open twice from three appearances in finals, while Carreno Busta is a former runner-up.

Have any players withdrawn?

No players on the original main draw entry have withdrawn from the tournament.

Yoshihito Nishioka, who was on the qualifying list, has been forced to pull out.

Which former champions will play?

Three former champions are set to play: Ruud (2024), Alcaraz (2022 and 2023) and Nishikori (2014 and 2015).

Tsitsipas — a runner-up in 2018, 2021, 2023 and 2024 — will also compete.

Have any players used a protected ranking to enter?

Players who have been unable to compete in any tournaments due to injury for a minimum of six months are eligible to use the ATP protected ranking system.

The protected ranking will be determined by the player’s average ranking position during the first three months of their injury. They can use the protected ranking to enter nine tournaments and for a period of nine months from the first event they play after returning.

Reilly Opelka, a former world No 17 currently ranked 105th as he continues his comeback, has used his protected ranking of 33 to enter.
