Who is Belinda Bencic’s husband? Trainer and fitness coach Martin Hromkovic
Belinda Bencic’s resurgence in 2025 has been one of the biggest stories on the WTA Tour this season.
The Swiss returned to action towards the end of 2024, after welcoming daughter Bella in April, and has been in remarkable form since then.
Bencic won the ninth WTA Tour title of her career at the Abu Dhabi Open back in February, weeks after reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open.
Now, the 28-year-old has reached the first Wimbledon quarter-final of her career and just her fourth major quarter-final overall, continuing her incredible resurgence.
The Swiss is no stranger to success, striking gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and winning two WTA 1000 titles, including the 2019 Dubai Tennis Championships.
Her husband, Martin Hromkovic, who is also her fitness trainer, has been a key influence in her success.
Who is Martin Hromkovic?
Bencic has Slovakian heritage, which may go some way towards her connection with Hromkovic, who is Slovakian himself.
Born in May 1982, Hromkovic is no stranger to life as a professional athlete, having spent a large chunk of his life as a professional footballer.
The 43-year-old was a youth player at Inter Bratislava and was also a professional at the club at points, though he was affiliated with eight different clubs across his career, across Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Germany.
Hromkovic and Bencic reportedly first started dating in 2018 and the former defender retired from football in 2019, becoming the Swiss’s full-time fitness trainer.
He was present for her triumph at the 2019 Dubai Tennis Championships, where she beat Petra Kvitova in the final, and was also part of her team for her memorable run to Olympic gold in Tokyo back in 2021.

Hromkovic was also part of her entourage when she reached the semi-final of the US Open in 2019, and for her quarter-final showing at the tournament in 2021.
Bencic announced that she and her partner were expecting their first child in November 2023, with daughter Bella born in April 2024.
She and Hromkovic tied the knot in a small ceremony shortly before the birth of their first child, and he has remained a key part of her team since her return to action.
Hromkovic often looks after Bella during Bencic’s WTA Tour matches, and was spotted with his daughter during the Swiss’s Abu Dhabi final victory over Ashlyn Krueger.
He has also been a key part of her run at Wimbledon in 2025, with the unseeded star having beaten 18th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova to reach the quarter-final.
