How much career prize money did Rafael Nadal win at the French Open?
Rafael Nadal said his final goodbye to the French Open in an emotional farewell ceremony on Sunday, with the Court Philippe Chatrier crowd paying tribute to the ‘King of Clay’.
After an underwhelming ceremony at the Davis Cup following his final career match last November, this felt like a more fitting way to celebrate Nadal’s career.
Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray were among those who helped celebrate the Spaniard at the event that came to define his career, and the tournament he will ultimately remain synonymous with.
Nadal made 19 appearances at the tournament and won a staggering 14 titles, the most titles won by any player – male or female – at an individual major in the Open Era.
The Spaniard held a 112-4 (96.55%) win record at the tournament and officially played his last match at the tournament in 2024, falling to Alexander Zverev in round one.
Nadal’s French Open career was a long and hugely successful one, and it is fair to say he earned more than a small fortune through his Roland Garros exploits.

Nadal’s French Open prize money exploits
Nadal won his first French Open title in 2005 and his last in 2022, and the prize money differential between those respective triumphs is staggering.
Aged 19, he won €880,000 for lifting the title on his tournament debut two decades ago, while his 2022 triumph – the final of his 22 majors – earned him an astonishing €2,200,000.
Across his 19 tournament appearances, Nadal won a total of €21,800,000 in prize money at the French Open, equivalent to approximately £18,200,000 or $24,800,000 based on current exchange rates.
That is a staggering amount of prize money by any standing, but becomes even more remarkable when you look at it through the context of his career.
Nadal earned an astonishing $134,946,100 in on-court earnings across his career, a prize money haul only bettered by Novak Djokovic, who has earned approximately $187,086 to date.
That means that the Spaniard won approximately 18.4% of his entire career prize money at just one tournament, a staggering achievement considering the sheer number of events he contested.
He also won more prize money at the French Open than he did in his most successful prize money season, taking home $16,349,586 during his 2019 campaign.
If you look at the all-time career prize money standings, Nadal would be inside the top 25 ATP earners of all time if you factored in only his Roland Garros earnings.
Nadal’s $24,800,000 won in Paris currently places him just ahead of three-time Grand Slam finalist Casper Ruud, who sits 22nd all-time with current earnings of $24,777,407.
Former world No 3 and 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro currently sits 20th all-time with earnings of $25,896,046 – approximately just a million more than Nadal won.
Though the Nadal figure used is slightly adjusted with inflation, the figure still shows just how extraordinary his success at his greatest tournament was.
