Iga Swiatek overtakes Simona Halep, Maria Sharapova as she leaps to No 3 on WTA prize money list
Iga Swiatek’s $4m cheque for winning Wimbledon 2025 has helped her to surge to No 3 in the WTA all-time career prize money leaders list, and she will most likely climb to No 2 in the near future.
The Pole started Wimbledon at No 8 with earnings of $36,372,498 with Serena Williams well clear of her sister Venus Williams in second place.
The Williams sisters were followed by fellow Grand Slam winners Simona Halep, Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka, Petra Kivtova, Caroline Wozniacki and Swiatek.
Reigning world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka was just behind the Pole in ninth place as the three-time Grand Slam winner’s earnings were $36,082,811 before the grass-court Grand Slam.
WTA Prize Money Leaders Before Wimbledon
1. Serena Williams – $94,816,730
2. Venus Williams – $42,648,578
3. Simona Halep – $40,236,618
4. Maria Sharapova – $38,777,962
5. Victoria Azarenka – $38,532,860
6. Petra Kvitova – $37,454,150
7. Caroline Wozniacki – $36,441,868
8. Iga Świątek – $36,372,498
9. Aryna Sabalenka – $36,082,811
With Wimbledon offering £3,000,000 ($4,069,500) to the 2025 title winners, Swiatek has had an incredible rise from eighth to third as she has now earned $40,523,198 at the age of just 24.
With her two-set defeat of Amanda Anisimova in the final, she took her 2025 prize money earnings from $3,331,507 to an incredible $7,401,007 and, with several big tournaments still left on the WTA Tour calendar, the six-time Grand Slam winner will most likely finish the 2025 season in second place.
The season-ending WTA Finals is the big money-maker for players as it offers the biggest prize cheque in women’s tennis as last year Coco Gauff won a record-breaking $4.8m when she lifted the trophy in Saudi Arabia.

That $7,401,007 is already good enough for 15th place on the best single-season earnings on the Tour, just behind Halep’s $7,409,564 from 2018.
Last year the Pole collected $8,550,693 while her best-ever season was in 2022 when she made $9,875,525 and in 2023 she earned $9,857,686 while Serena Williams’ $12,385,572 from 2013 sits at the top.
Sabalenka also moved up a couple of places as she earned $1,051,288 for reaching the semi-final and took her total to $37,134,099.
French Open champion Coco Gauff is the other active player likely to move up in the coming months. The American rose to No 12 after winning the Roland Garros title, but her second-round exit at the All England Club means she will remain there with her earnings increasing to $27,278,510.
But given she is only 21 years old, Gauff will likely be one of those who challenge Serena Williams’ all-time total of $94,816,730.
