Jannik Sinner & Taylor Fritz star, Carlos Alcaraz falters – ATP Finals Winners & Losers
The ATP Finals brought a close to the 2024 ATP season with Jannik Sinner rounding off his season of dominance with a run to the title in Turin.
The world No 1 downed Taylor Fritz in the final to cap off a close-to-flawless run for the 23-year-old, who went one better than his final defeat in 2023.
With the tournament over, we look back at the big winners and losers from the last eight days in Turin.
Winners
Jannik Sinner: Sinner became the first man since Ivan Lendl in 1986 to win the title without dropping a set, and just the seventh man to triumph on home soil. A dominant week in Turin capped off a dominant year for the world No 1.
Taylor Fritz: The Sinner match-up may be a problem but Fritz proved in Turin that he is now a significant force in the men’s game. The US No 1 is now the world No 4 thanks to his fine efforts at the year-end championships – and across the season.
Casper Ruud: Out of form heading into the ATP Finals, few gave Ruud too much of a chance heading in but a run to the last four – beating Carlos Alcaraz in the group – was a reminder of his form in the early stages of 2024. He finishes the year as a deserved world No 6.

Losers
Carlos Alcaraz: Illness may have been a mitigating circumstance, but this was still an underwhelming campaign for the world No 3. Losses to Ruud and Alexander Zverev highlight that indoor tennis remains a sticky issue for the Spaniard.
Daniil Medvedev: Medvedev’s group stage exit means this is the first season since 2017 that the former world No 1 has not won a title. There is plenty for the Russian to think about ahead of 2025.
Andrey Rublev: An up-and-down year for Rublev ended in three group stage defeats for the eighth seed in Turin, winning just one set across his three matches. Improvement is needed if he wants to remain in the top 10 next year.
Alex de Minaur: The hip injury that troubled de Minaur throughout the second half of 2024 seemed to remain an issue for the Australian as he too failed to win a match. Fingers crossed he can return to full fitness for his home Slam next January.
Winner & Loser
Alexander Zverev: Zverev did not drop a set in the group stage and showed why he will finish the year as the world No 2 ahead of Alcaraz. However, he failed to turn that momentum into a run to the final; the Fritz match-up is proving a significant issue for him.
