Who is Madison Keys’ husband? Coach and ex-pro Bjorn Frataneglo

Last November, Madison Keys got married to former player Bjorn Frataneglo after dating since 2017.
However, what is even more unusual than two players getting married is the fact that Frataneglo has been coaching his wife since June 2023.
The couple posted some wedding pictures at the time of their wedding, with his engagement to Keys coming 18 months prior. Frataneglo captioned the Instagram pictures with:
“Can’t put into words how amazing this day was. I am so excited to spend the rest of my life with you @madisonkeys. To everyone with us, you all made it beyond what we could have imagined. Love you all.”
Before their engagement announcement, the two managed to keep the relationship entirely under wraps.
Bjorn Frataneglo is a former top 100 player, reaching a career-high of world No 99 in June 2016.
He showed great promise from an early age, winning the Roland Garros boys’ singles title in 2011 – defeating two-time finalist Dominic Thiem in the final. In doing so, he became the first American in 34 years to win the event, after John McEnroe in 1977.
The very next year, Frataneglo turned professional.
The American’s best results at Grand Slam level came at Roland Garros in 2016, and at the US Open in 2017.
Keys is in fine form at the 2025 Australian Open, having beaten Danielle Collins, Elena Rybakina and Elina Svitolina. Most impressively, the American won a nail-biting semi-final match vs world No 2 Iga Swiatek, 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(8) – after the Pole served for the match in the third set and held a match point of her own.

The event represents her second Grand Slam final, after having previously reached the final of the US Open in 2017 – the same year she started dating her future husband.
Speaking about the husband-coach dynamic, Keys stated: “It’s great that we get to see each other. He used to play as well, so we would go for long periods of time without seeing each other, so it’s wonderful seeing him.
“Having to admit that he’s right isn’t always my favourite thing, and it happens a lot more than I want it to, but I’m learning to just kind of nod and he just knows that I’m saying that he’s right.”
In the Australian Open final, Madison Keys will face world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarusian leads the American four victories to one in their head-to-head, with Keys not managing to get a win over the two-time defending champion since 2021.
