Joao Fonseca reigned supreme at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah, with the 18-year-old beating US star Learner Tien in Sunday’s final.
The youngest and lowest-ranked player in the draw, Fonseca rallied from a set down to seal a 2-4, 4-3(8), 4-0, 4-2 triumph.
The Brazilian and Tien both impressed in Jeddah, toppling more experienced and higher-ranked opposition such as Arthur Fils, Jakub Mensik, and Alex Michelsen to reach the final.

The answer to this point is quite simple: no ranking points were on offer in Jeddah.
The tournament, held in a Fast4 format, is seen as being more about offering young ATP stars a further chance to compete on a global stage.
By winning the title, Fonseca has also not won a first official ATP Tour title, with the format disqualifying it from such recognition.
However, all results this week do count towards the official head-to-head between any two players.
So, having beaten Tien in both the round-robin stage and the final, Fonseca now holds a 2-0 head-to-head over the American.

A total prize money haul of $2,050,000 was available across the field in Jeddah, a slight increase on the $2,000,000 pot from 2023.
Players automatically earned $150,000 for participating in the event, with a further $36,660 available for each round-robin win an individual player achieved.
A semi-final victory was guaranteed to earn players a further $113,500 to add to their group winners, with the winner of the final ensured a further $153,000.
An unbeaten champion – following three wins in as many group stage matches – Fonseca takes home an impressive paycheque of $526,480.
That almost triples the teenager’s pre-existing career prize money up to this point, with a total haul of $292,146 to his name heading into the Next Gen Finals.
With two round-robin victories and a semi-final win to his name, plus the appearance payout of $150,000, 19-year-old Tien takes home a not-insignificant $336,820.
That almost doubles the American’s previous career earnings of $382,234.
What did Fils, Michelsen, & Mensik earn?
Fils, Michelsen, and Mensik were the three favourites heading in, with all three inside the top 50 of the ATP Rankings – though only second seed Michelsen made the last four.
Adding three group stage wins to his $150,000 appearance fee, the American takes home $259,980 from Jeddah.
Meanwhile, Fils earns £186,660 after picking up one round-robin victory, while Mensik takes home $150,000 after failing to win a match at the tournament.
