Sinner, Alcaraz, Djokovic, & co: The 9 best ATP players of 2024 – ranked!

Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic won big titles in 2024.

An intriguing ATP Tour season has come to a close, with just the Davis Cup Finals left to play for the game’s leading male players in 2024.

The year saw two men sweep the Slams but also saw plenty of others make huge strides in their careers, while a few found life on tour a bit more tricky than in previous seasons.

Using the year-end rankings alongside titles won, finals reached, overall consistency, and key improvements, we rank our nine best ATP players of 2024.

9) Andrey Rublev

2024 was a strange year for Rublev, whose form wavered throughout the season after years of solid consistency on the ATP Tour.

The Russian failed to make much of an impact at the final three majors of 2024 and he reached the quarter-final of just three Masters 1000 events.

However, despite his difficulties, he still managed to win the Madrid Open, make the Canadian Open final, and also win an ATP 250 title in Hong Kong.

It was not a great season for Rublev but, as the world No 8, he finished inside the top 10 for a fifth straight year.

8) Alex de Minaur

De Minaur finishes 2024 as the world No 9 but reached a career-high of sixth this summer, and also qualified for the ATP Finals for the first time.

After reaching the fourth round at the Australian Open, de Minaur then made the quarter-final of the remaining three majors – and was also the champion in Acapulco and ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

The Australian was also the runner-up in Rotterdam, and his season could have been even better had he not suffered a significant hip injury at SW19.

His form tailed off slightly after that, but he has set himself up well for 2025.

7) Daniil Medvedev

It is hard to know how Medvedev will reflect on what has been a strange season for the former world No 1.

On the one hand, he finishes the year as the world No 5 with Australian Open and Indian Wells runner-up finishes to his name, alongside a Wimbledon semi-final run.

However, he did not make a final after Indian Wells – in his first season since 2017 without a title – while he struggled to match Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in his contests against them.

Medvedev is still comfortably one of the world’s best, but this was not a vintage year.

6) Casper Ruud

Ruud’s season appeared to be tailing off until a surprise semi-final showing at the ATP Finals, which will provide him with a huge boost heading into 2025.

The Norwegian’s second half of the season was testing, losing seven out of eight matches at one stage, and failing to make a semi-final after Roland Garros.

But he did make the last four in Paris for a third straight year and was the Barcelona and Geneva Open champion before then, the former being the biggest title of his career.

Further runner-up finishes in Los Cabos, Acapulco, and Monte Carlo mean Ruud finishes the year as the world No 6 – and sixth in our season-ending standings.

Jannik Sinner & Taylor Fritz star, Carlos Alcaraz falters – ATP Finals Winners & Losers

How much money and how many points did Jannik Sinner, Taylor Fritz and Carlos Alcaraz earn at 2024 ATP Finals?

5) Novak Djokovic

Djokovic’s season was not successful from a Grand Slam standpoint, with the Serbian failing to win a major for the first time since 2017.

However, he got the one title he wanted this year, and that happened to be one of the most significant of all: a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Paris.

Despite an ‘off’ year elsewhere, he still reached the Wimbledon final – weeks after meniscus surgery – and the Australian Open semi-finals, also making the French Open quarter-finals before his withdrawal.

Despite playing just 10 tournaments, the 37-year-old still finishes the year ranked as the world No 7.

4) Taylor Fritz

Fritz finishes 2024 at a new high of world No 4 in the ATP Rankings after a career-best season for the American.

The highlight was his run to the US Open final, though he also reached Australian Open and Wimbledon quarter-finals, and the fourth round of the French Open – all career-best results.

Outside of New York, he was the champion in Delray Beach and Eastbourne as well as a finalist in Munich, before finishing as the runner-up at the ATP Finals.

Few improved as much this season as the 27-year-old, who looks well-placed to be a major contender in 2025.

3) Alexander Zverev

A maiden Grand Slam title still eludes Zverev but he was undoubtedly the best player in the world outside of Sinner and Alcaraz in 2024.

The German’s 69 match wins is a career-best for him in an individual season and took him to significant Masters 1000 titles in Rome and Bercy, alongside a runner-up finish in Hamburg.

Zverev also reached his second major final at Roland Garros and was also an Australian Open semi-finalist, reaching the second week at least at all four Grand Slams.

A season-ending ranking of world No 2 is a testament to his consistency throughout the year.

2) Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz’s season was bumpy at points, but the highs of his 2024 were extraordinary.

The Spaniard completed the ‘Surface Slam’ with his victory at Roland Garros, and weeks later completed the ‘Channel Slam’ with an emphatic defence of his Wimbledon title.

Alcaraz also defended his title at Indian Wells, while he won a fourth title of 2024 by beating Sinner in a thrilling China Open final – one of three wins over the Italian this year.

An injury-stricken clay season and early US Open exit means he ends the year as the world No 3, but he is undoubtedly the second-best player on the ATP at the moment.

1) Jannik Sinner

There are no prizes for guessing that Sinner is our No 1 male player of 2024 after a truly dominant season for the world No 1.

The Italian’s year is undoubtedly highlighted by his triumphs at the Australian and US Open, followed by his ATP Finals just this weekend.

However, he won eight titles in total – including Masters 1000 victories in Miami, Cincinnati, and Shanghai – and has a cushion of 3,915 points as the world No 1.

Sinner’s season was extraordinary, and there can be no doubting his status as the game’s dominant player.
