T365 Madrid Open Fantasy Predictions: Aryna Sabalenka ‘a class of her own’ as Alexander Zverev ‘the man to beat’

Tennis365
L-R: Aryna Sabalenka and Alexander Zverev lift the Madrid Open title.
Aryna Sabalenka and Alexander Zverev are former Madrid Open champions.

The Madrid Open is here, with most of the world’s best players in action.

Here, our writers Oli Dickson Jefford, Kevin Palmer, Shahida Jacobs, and Ewan West predict their champions.

Madrid Open – men’s singles

ODJ: A very tough tournament to predict, with top seed Alexander Zverev handed a tough draw and second seed Carlos Alcaraz now out. Novak Djokovic could factor, but two-time champion Zverev may be the man to beat after returning to form in Munich.

KP: TO BE CONFIRMED

SJ: Although I have burned my fingers before with a similar predictions, I feel Novak Djokovic will finally get title No 100. (Also something about a broken clock being right at least twice per day).

EW: It’s hard to look past two-time Madrid winner Alexander Zverev, who arrives with positive momentum from Munich.

Madrid Open – women’s singles

ODJ: Aryna Sabalenka may have suffered a disappointing loss in the Stuttgart final, but she’s conclusively been the most consistent WTA player this season. Her Madrid pedigree suggests another big run looms.

KP: Aryna Sabalenka was furious after she lost the Stuttgart final against Jelena Ostapenko and will get her frustrations out in her matches in Madrid. Iga Swiatek does not look to be in the form she needs to defend her title.

SJ: Aryna Sabalenka is in a class of her own at the moment and will surely win her third title in Madrid after finishing runner-up last year. Defending champion Iga Swiatek’s path is full of hurdles in the form of Alex Eala, Linda Noskova and Jelena Ostapenko.

EW: Aryna Sabalenka loves the Madrid conditions and has a favourable draw, so I think she can continue her strong form and win her third title of the season.

T365 Fantasy Game

This season, our writers are competing to see who can earn as many points as possible by predicting the champions at every ATP and WTA-level tournament.

Five points are available for a correct champion pick, with three for a runner-up, and one for a semi-finalist.

This becomes seven points for a champion, five for a runner-up, three for a semi-finalist, and one for a quarter-finalist at Grand Slams.

All the team scored significant points this past week, though current lead Oli fared the best with 14 points to his name.

Oli successfully backed Zverev to triumph in Munich, and earned runner-up points for Carlos Alcaraz in Barcelona, Sabalenka in Stuttgart, and Olga Danilovic in Rouen.

It was also a strong week for Ewan, who correctly backed Zverev in Munich and Elina Svitolina in Rouen, while earning three points for Alcaraz’s runner-up finish.

Kevin also successfully backed Svitolina in Rouen and gained three points for Alcaraz in Barcelona, alongside one point for Francisco Cerundolo’s semi-final showing in Munich.

Shahida did not pick a champion but still earned three points for Sabalenka, three for Alcaraz, and one for Cerundolo.

Live Standings

1) Oli Dickson Jefford – 88 points
2) Ewan West – 77 points
3) Kevin Palmer – 52 points
4) Shahida Jacobs – 49 points
