One of the most successful American male players in recent times, Taylor Fritz has made a significant name for himself in the sporting world.

With an Indian Wells title and a career-high fifth in the ATP Rankings, he has forged a career that many could only dream of emulating.

But Fritz is not the first member of his family to find success, with several of his relatives also forging successful careers.

As he embarks on a career-best run at Wimbledon, we take you through all you need to know about his famous family.

Former Top 10 star mum

When Fritz made his top-10 debut towards the end of 2022, he emulated the achievement of his mum, Kathy May – who also reached the top ten of the world rankings during her playing career.

A former world No 10 during her playing career, May was the winner of seven WTA titles and reached three Grand Slam quarter-finals.

She reached the last eight at consecutive French Opens in 1977 and 1978 and also progressed to that stage of the US Open in the latter of those two years.

A former doubles partner of Tracy Austin, May also reached the fourth round of Wimbledon before retiring from the sport aged 24.

By reaching world No 5 Fritz has achieved a higher career ranking than his mum, and has now overtaken her in tour titles and Grand Slam quarter-finals.

ATP ace dad

Fritz’s father, Guy, was also a player on the ATP Tour – reaching a career-high of 301st during his career.

However, he is probably best recognised for his career as a coach.

Guy spearheaded the early stages of his son’s career, setting out the pathway for Fritz to reach the top-10 of the ATP rankings and four Grand Slam quarter-finals.

He also worked with the likes of Coco Vandeweghe as a junior and was named US Olympic Development Coach of the Year in 2016 thanks to his efforts guiding future stars of the game.

Davis Cup record-holder uncle

His uncle Harry holds a place inside the tennis history books.

A former world No 171, Harry Fritz played in the main draw of the 1980 US Open and won one title.

Born in America, Fritz later represented Canada after being based in Toronto for an extended period and was their No 1 player.

And, thanks to a Davis Cup tie in 1982, he is practically ensured of a permanent place in the tennis record books.

His 16-14, 11-9, 9-11, 4-6, 11-9 win over Venezuela’s Jorge Andrews is the most games ever played in a competition rubber.

Swim star aunt

It is not just in tennis that the Fritz family have found sporting success, with Taylor’s aunt a successful swimmer during the 1970s.

A six-time individual events champion in the US collegiate system, Laura Fritz was once ranked as the fifth-fastest freestyle swimmer in the world.

And she was also a world record holder at one point, as part of America’s 4x400m relay team.

It was not just in the pool where Laura found success, having been crowned Miss Nevada in 1973.

Businessman ancestor

Fritz’s immediate family have had a significant impact in the sporting sphere, though one of his ancestors had an even bigger impact in the business world.

His great-great-grandfather is David May, who became one of the most successful businesses in the country after founding the May Department Stores Company.

Born in Germany, May moved to America as a child and before he died in 1927, he owned and managed stores across the nation.

The May Department Stores Company remained in existence until 2005 when it became part of Macy’s.
