What happened to Camila Giorgi?
The Italian tennis player announced her sudden retirement from tennis last May, with a large slice of mystery surrounding the manner of her exit from the sport.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency appeared to break the news of Giorgi’s exit from tennis when she was added to their list of retired players back in May.
That was followed by days of speculation over the reasons for her sudden decision to walk away from tennis, with wild claims in the Italian media fuelling the rumours around her move to end her tennis story.
There have been no suggestions that 32-year-old Giorgi has had any regrets over her decision, with an interview in October giving her a chance to comment on claims she had issues with the Italian tax authorities.
“The problems with the tax authorities? My family did not know about them, they were created by outside people who managed me and did this as a job,” said Giorgi in an interview with with Italian broadcaster Verissimo
“My father did not earn a living doing this, he was just my trainer. We were never afraid, we changed the people who managed us and now we are in order.
“I did not expect this. Many misconceptions have been created. They always put my father’s name in the middle, it is not always his fault – he has no business being here.
“We did not flee for tax reasons. I never fled, I never spoke. We did not pay the rent and we took the furniture? The house had no furniture, we brought it ourselves.”
Despite her sudden exit from tennis, Giorgi has continued to retain her huge following on Instagram and her social media platforms.
The glamorous ex-player who reached a career of No 26 in the WTA Rankings in October 2018, is a huge fan of fashion and has used her profile in tennis to promote the Giomila clothing brand owned by her mother Claudia.
She currently has a little over 720k followers on Instagram and has continued to post regular messages of her passion for fashion, with some of her more revealing images producing huge interactions on her page.

“Fashion has always been my great passion,” she said in an interview in 2022. “I like sports a lot, but I like fashion more. This obsession has been passed on to me since I was a child.
“There is no need to justify anything, I would like to say; I am dealing with a professional photographer who knows how to do his job. I like everything and it gratifies me.
“My mom always tells me as long as you can show your body take advantage because afterwards you can’t do it!”
Giorgi’s social media posts led to some claims that she was promoting herself as an influencer rather than an athlete during her playing days, but that accusation can now be dropped as she is now devoted to being a social media star.
Her latest Instagram post featured Giorgi dressed up in a red Christmas dress as she displayed her cooking skills to make a we make strawberry and blueberry roll.
There are no evidence of the sport that helped to make Giorgi famous on her Instagram page, as it seems clear that she is keen to put tennis in her past as she moves on to a new life as an Instagram star.
