Where will Alex Eala play this hard-court summer? Star set for big tournament debuts
The rise of Alex Eala has been one of the biggest stories of 2025 so far.
Ever since her landmark breakout run at the Miami Open back in March, which saw her crack the top 100 of the WTA Rankings, the 20-year-old has attracted huge attention.
Eala has now made Grand Slam appearances at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, where she represented her nation with pride inside Centre Court, and also reached her first WTA Tour final in Eastbourne.
Now up at her career-high ranking of world No 56, the Filipina is set to break further ground with a busy hard-court summer in North America.
Here, we look at the three big tournaments where Eala will be playing this summer.
Canadian Open (July 27 – Aug 7)
Having played at both the Madrid Open and Italian Open since her stunning Miami Open run, Eala will return to WTA 1000 action at the Canadian Open towards the end of the month.
This year’s women’s event will be held at the IGA Stadium in Montreal, with the women’s and men’s events alternating between Montreal and Toronto each year.
Ranked 56th in the world, Eala has automatically entered the 96-player main draw, meaning she will not have to come through qualifying.
The 20-year-old is set to make her tournament debut, having never contested the event previously.

Cincinnati Open (Aug 5-18)
After action in Montreal, Eala will then head to the Midwest for the second of two WTA 1000 events of the hard-court summer at the Cincinnati Open.
Much like the Canadian Open, Eala’s ranking is high enough for her to enter the main draw automatically, without having to contest qualifying.
And, it will also be her debut at this event, having never played at the Lindner Family Tennis Center previously.
Conditions in Cincinnati are considered among the quickest across both the WTA and ATP Tours, and are notably different to those at the Canadian Open.
That means Eala will have to adjust quickly to adapt to the two different events.
US Open (Aug 24 – Sept 7)
Eala’s hard-court summer will culminate in the third Grand Slam main-draw appearance of her career at the US Open, where she will look to win a major main-draw match for the very first time.
The US Open holds huge significance for the Filipina, who lifted the junior title at the tournament as a 17-year-old back in 2022.
Eala nearly qualified for the tournament back in 2024, reaching the third round of qualifying before a three-set defeat to 20th seed Elena-Gabriela Ruse.
However, she qualifies for the main draw by right and will become the first woman from her nation to play a main-draw match at Flushing Meadows.
