Who is Emma Raducanu’s next Strasbourg opponent? Outspoken American Danielle Collins

Emma Raducanu has continued her encouraging clay campaign in Strasbourg, and she looks set to face a good test in her second match.
The world No 43, who accepted a late wildcard to play in Strasbourg, crushed sixth seed and world No 17 Daria Kasatkina 6-1, 6-3 in the opening round of the WTA 500 tournament on Monday.
It was arguably the best clay-court win of Raducanu‘s career, with Kasatkina a former world No 8 and French Open semi-finalist.
The one-sided triumph was all the more impressive given Raducanu had not won a set in her three previous encounters with the Russian-born Australian star.
Raducanu’s reward for her first round upset will be a second round clash with a fellow unseeded player — world No 46 Danielle Collins.
Who is Danielle Collins?
Collins — who was born in St. Petersburg Florida — won the NCAA singles title twice during her college tennis career at the University of Virginia.
The American turned pro in 2016 and made her WTA Tour breakthrough in 2018, when he reached the semi-finals of the Miami Open as a qualifier.
In 2019, Collins made a stunning run to the semi-finals of the Australian Open as an unseeded player on her main draw debut at the event.
Collins has won four WTA singles titles, with her maiden tournament win coming at the 2021 Palermo Ladies Open.
The 31-year-old has won WTA 500 events in San Jose (2021) and Charleston (2024), while her biggest title came at WTA 1000 level at the 2024 Miami Open.
At the 2022 Australian Open, Collins was a runner-up to Ashleigh Barty after upsetting Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals. She reached her career-high world ranking of No 7 in July of that year.
Collins is known for her fiery on-court demeanour and she did not hide from controversy at this year’s Australian Open, when she took on the crowd after beating home hope Destanee Aiava in the second round.
After her win, Collins responded to vociferous booing by telling a fan to “shut up”, blowing kisses to the crowd and slapping her backside.
As the boos continued during her on-court interview, Collins said: “During the match I was like, while I’m out here I might as well take that big fat pay check.
“We love a five star vacation, so a big part of that will go towards that. “So thank you guys, thanks for coming out here and supporting us tonight. Thank you guys, love you.”

How has Collins performed in 2025?

After beating Elena-Gabriela Ruse in her opening match in Rome, Collins stunned reigning champion and clay-court great Swiatek 6-1, 7-5 in the third round. She held a 1-7 record against Swiatek, a five-time Grand Slam champion, prior to that win.
Collins was beaten by an in-form Elina Svitolina in the last 16 of the WTA 1000 tournament, but she bounced back with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 win over world No 31 Sofia Kenin in the opening round in Strasbourg.
The 31-year-old was a runner-up in Strasbourg to Madison Keys last year.
