Jannik Sinner will be the No 1 seed for his title defence at the 2025 Australian Open, while Alexander Zverev will be seeded above Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner, who has occupied the world No 1 spot since June 2024, will be the top seed for the third straight major after last year’s editions of Wimbledon and the US Open.

The 23-year-old Italian, who is the reigning Australian Open and US Open champion, sits on 11,830 points, giving him a 4,195-point lead over world No 2 Zverev with the seedings based on the ATP Rankings from January 6.

Zverev is 625 points clear of third-placed Alcaraz, while world No 4 Taylor Fritz will be the fourth seed at a Grand Slam for the first time in his career in Melbourne.

Daniil Medvedev and Casper Ruud are seeded fifth and sixth respectively, while 10-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic will be the No 7 seed. This is Djokovic’s lowest seeding at a Grand Slam since he was 12th seed at Wimbledon in 2018.

With Sinner the top seed, Alcaraz at No 3 and Djokovic at No 7, they could all find themselves in the same half of the draw along with another former champion in Daniil Medvedev.

Alex de Minaur will complete the top eight at his home major by occupying what is his highest-ever seeding position at a Grand Slam.

De Minaur is one of three Australians who are seeded as he joined by Alexei Popyrin (25) and Jordan Thompson (27). It is the first time since 2000 that three Australians are seeded at a Grand Slam with Lleyton Hewitt, Mark Philippoussis and Pat Rafter the trio who were in the top 32 back then.
