Aryna Sabalenka is the top seed at a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career at the 2025 Australian Open, while Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff will complete the top three.

Sabalenka, who is the two-time defending Australian Open champion and the reigning US Open champion, replaced Swiatek as the world No 1 in October.

After starting her season by winning the WTA 500 event in Brisbane, the 26-year-old Belarusian extended her lead over world No 2 Swiatek in the WTA Rankings to 1,471 points.

Swiatek is the second seed at a Grand Slam for the first time in her career, having been the No 1 seed at the previous 11 majors – a run that started at the 2022 French Open. The five-time Grand Slam winner will be vying for a maiden Australian Open title.

Gauff, who trails Swiatek by 1,340 points, is seeded third, while Jasmine Paolini has earned her highest seeding position as she sits at No 4 with the rankings from January 6 used to determine the positions.

Zheng Qinwen, who was a runner-up at Melbourne Park in 2024 as the No 12 seed, will be seeded fifth this year.

Elena Rybakina – an Australian Open finalist in 2023 – is the No 6 seed, while Americans Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro will be seeded seventh and eighth respectively.

Two-time major winner and reigning Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova would have been the 10th seed, but the Czech star has been forced to withdraw due to a back injury.

Dayana Yastremska, who reached the semi-finals at last year’s Australian Open, has benefitted by moving into the 32nd and final seeding place.
